POSITION: Director of Retail

REPORTS TO: Head Golf Professional, Tyler Smith

OVERVIEW

Fox Chapel Golf Club is a premier private club located in Pittsburgh, PA, offering an exceptional member and guest experience centered around its golf facilities and club amenities.

DESCRIPTION

The Director of Retail is a hospitality professional capable of providing the highest level of service to our members, guests, and staff. The position will oversee the Club’s golf shop and retail operation which generates roughly $1 million in annual gross income, with a focus on delivering outstanding service, maintaining a high-quality merchandise assortment, and supporting the overall member experience.

REQUIREMENTS
  • Full-time, year-round position.
  • Must possess a friendly and positive personality with a focus on building relationships with members and staff.
  • Maintain a visible presence in the golf shop and on the sales floor. Assist customers with merchandise selections as needed; work at the sales counter as necessary.
  • Promote goodwill and exceptional service to members and guests.
  • Maintain a clean, refreshed, uncluttered, and organized golf shop and storage room.
  • Educate staff in proper selling and merchandising techniques.
  • Reconcile accounts payable for all monthly invoices and statements.
  • Buying, receiving, pricing, and displaying new merchandise. This also includes maintaining, rotating, and changing displays with an exceptional appearance.
  • Be efficient in marketing and promotion of merchandise; social media proficient.
  • Supervise and maintain the point-of-sale system.
  • Maintain a member loyalty program.
  • Responsible for overseeing the special-order program with proper communication regarding status updates.
  • Formulate pricing policies by reviewing merchandising activities; determining additional as-needed sales promotions; authorizing clearance sales; and studying trends to develop a strong annual buying plan.
  • Coordinate, schedule, and manage quarterly inventory to assure shrinkage levels are well within industry standards.
  • Update and maintain all vendor contact information as it relates to seasonal offerings and vendor profiling for future sourcing opportunities.
  • Create a plan to offer discounts and congratulations to members who are having upcoming birthdays or anniversaries.
  • Assist with the receipt of incoming merchandise while preparing and creating SKUs.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures in regard to initial markups, markdowns, and special event purchasing.
  • Keep the golf shop clean and uncluttered.
  • Other duties as provided.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3+ years of retail experience within the golf industry or with a luxury retailer preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while multi-tasking.
  • Membership in the Association of Golf Merchandisers (AGM) is preferred.
  • Computer expertise mandatory; proficient in Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint/Outlook.
  • Experience with a point-of-sale system preferred.
  • Understanding of accounts payable and accounts receivable.
  • Possess excellent communication and correspondence skills.
  • Basic golf knowledge is necessary.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Performance bonus based on multiple factors including; overall performance, annual and monthly budget income, end of the year inventory at cost, average inventory shrinkage, annual corporate sales, and AGM awards.
  • Flexible work schedule from January 1 – February 28th.
  • Eligible to enroll in individual/family health and welfare benefits, including medical, dental, life, and disability insurance, subject to Club eligibility requirements.
  • Eligible to participate in retirement savings plan after 6 months, or 180 hours of full-time employment, subject to plan requirements.
  • Holiday bonus based on time of service, subject to Club policy.
  • Golf and practice golf privileges.
  • Uniform allowance provided.
  • Association of Golf Merchandisers (AGM) dues paid.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be able to continuously sit, stand, and walk for a minimum of 8 hours.
  • Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds and perform strenuous work lifting.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, push, and pull over the course of a shift.
  • All employees must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance per Fox Chapel Golf Club’s appearance standards.
  • Will be required to perform job functions outdoors periodically and be exposed to sun, heat, humidity, and other elements.
  • Must be able to work a flexible shift that could include early mornings, nights, weekends, holidays, split shifts, and extended shifts.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
