The mission of the College of Education is to prepare and develop professionals in vocational teacher education and information/office education through effective teaching, the dissemination of knowledge, generation and application of research, and service to the educational business communities. The College is committed to the purpose of preparing educational and business professionals who are both academically and technically proficient. The teacher education programs share the additional purposes of preparing professional educators who are reflective in practice, committed to the intellectual empowerment of others, and guided by the larger democratic purposes of American education.
Job Duties
INTERNAL POSTING: Open only to applicants currently employed by East Carolina University.
The Director of Research Support serves as a strategic advisor and resource to the Associate Dean for Research, Innovation, and Development, providing specialized leadership for research-related initiatives within the College of Education. This position focuses on strengthening faculty research capacity, supporting grant development, and advancing scholarly productivity, compliance, and collaboration opportunities. The Director works collaboratively with department chairs, faculty, institutes/centers, the Dean's office, UMCIRB, Office of Research Integrity and Compliance and other university partners to enhance research infrastructure and drive impact across the College.
Research Support and Development
Provide strategic guidance and recommendations to the Associate Dean on research policies, programs, and initiatives.
Identify and implement centralized supports for faculty research, including grant-writing assistance, mentorship, and resource development.
Coordinate research-related funding opportunities, including internal grants, external proposals, and collaborative partnerships.
Serve as a liaison between faculty researchers and College administration, facilitating communication and resource alignment.
Collaborate with the UMCIRB and Office of Research Integrity and Compliance to ensure compliance with university and federal research regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned that advance research and scholarly activity within the College.
Capacity Building and Partnership Development
Promote a culture of research excellence aligned with the College and University mission, strategic plan, and academic priorities.
Support the development of interdisciplinary research teams and partnerships with industry, nonprofits, and community organizations.
Assist with coordination of research-related events, workshops, and networking opportunities for faculty and students.
Contribute to assessment and reporting of research initiatives, including impact metrics and stakeholder feedback.
The selected candidate will retain their faculty status and receive an administrative stipend. Contingent on availability of funding.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Current tenured or tenured track faculty member within the College of Education.
  • Knowledge of research development, compliance, and funding processes.
  • Demonstrated strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • Experience developing and managing external grants and partnerships.
  • Familiarity with university research administration and sponsored programs.
  • Experience working across multiple academic units.
