We Are Hiring: Director of Project Controls

Director of Project Controls (Axiom Consulting and Project Management LLC; Alpharetta, GA): The Director of Project Controls will oversee and manage the company’s civil engineering and transportation projects. The Director of Project Control will play a key role in leading project teams, fostering collaboration, and ensuring the successful execution of projects from inception to completion. Below is a summary of the responsibilities:

  • Providing professional guidance and support to project teams to help develop project WBS structures, budgets, resource forecasts, risk registers, progress reports, and standardized reporting.
  • Overseeing all phases of project execution, including planning, design, procurement, construction, and commissioning.
  • Providing specialized direction and recommendations to project teams and management teams for the resolution of diverse project issues.
  • Compiling, monitoring, and reporting on project financial data, including planned spend, actual spend, estimate to complete, budget trends, and project costs.
  • Providing leadership and guidance to project teams, fostering a collaborative and high‑performing work environment.
  • Serving as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring clear communication, managing expectations, and addressing concerns.
  • Monitoring project budgets and schedules, identifying potential risks, and implementing mitigation strategies to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Managing contract amendment process, assisting with preparing submittal documents, and collecting and/or developing necessary inputs.
  • Performing quality checks and facilitating processing of subconsultant invoices.
  • Tracking and monitoring subconsultant progress against budgets.
  • Facilitating budget reallocations across multiple firms on major projects.
  • Initiating and managing purchase orders.
  • Creating and managing change orders.
  • Facilitating development of scope and cost documents across internal and external (subconsultant) project teams.
  • Overseeing change management, negotiation, and approval processes.
  • Performing commercial reviews of the financial impacts of project change orders as required.
  • Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements, permits, and codes.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, contractors, and community groups, to ensure project success and stakeholder satisfaction.
  • Identifying opportunities for process improvement and innovation, driving efficiency and effectiveness in project delivery.
  • Identifying and assessing project risks, developing risk mitigation plans, and monitoring risk throughout the project lifecycle.

While the Company's headquarters is located in Alpharetta, Georgia, this role will be based at client sites across the U.S. as needed. Domestic travel to client sites will be required 10–15% of the time.

Minimum Requirements
  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field plus 10 years of experience in a project management role overseeing large‑scale civil engineering and transportation projects.
  • Alternatively, Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related field plus 15 years of experience in a project management role overseeing large‑scale civil engineering and transportation projects.
Must Have
  • 10 years of hands‑on experience with Primavera.
  • 10 years of experience in a leadership or management role.
  • 10 years of experience with Claims and Forensic Schedule Analysis.
  • Strong technical knowledge of civil engineering principles, transportation systems, and construction practices.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability building and maintaining relationships with clients, stakeholders, and project teams.
  • Strong background in both technical aspects of engineering and project management, progressive design‑build contracting model and other alternative delivery models with a focus on delivering mega projects on time, within budget, and in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex infrastructure engineering and construction projects with budgets over $1 billion.
  • Proficiency in project management software and tools.
  • Certified Cost Professional (CCP).
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or equivalent certification required.
