What is a director of performance marketing?

A Director of Performance Marketing is a senior marketing professional responsible for developing and executing strategies to drive measurable results across digital channels, such as paid search, social media advertising, and display campaigns. Their main goal is to achieve key performance indicators (KPIs) like customer acquisition, conversion rates, and return on ad spend (ROAS). They lead teams, manage budgets, analyze campaign data, and optimize tactics to maximize efficiency and growth. This role requires strong analytical skills, leadership abilities, and in-depth knowledge of digital marketing platforms and tools.

How does a director of performance marketing typically collaborate with other departments to drive business growth?

A Director of Performance Marketing frequently works cross-functionally with teams such as creative, product, sales, and analytics to develop and execute data-driven campaigns. Effective collaboration ensures that marketing initiatives are aligned with overall business objectives, messaging is consistent, and resources are used efficiently. Regular meetings and shared performance dashboards help facilitate clear communication and quick adjustments to strategy. This collaborative approach not only maximizes campaign impact but also fosters a culture of continuous improvement and shared success.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a director of performance marketing, and why are they important?

Job description

About Us

Weโ€™re building the worldโ€™s leading cross-border fintech for emerging markets - empowering families, fueling local economies, and changing how millions access financial services.

Since our launch in 2019, we have transformed how money moves across borders with our operations spanning 6 out of 7 continents and covering both the busiest and most underserved (remittance) corridors. We tapped into a massive shift - from banks to phones - bringing digital finance to places where traditional systems never reached. The next stage of growth will fuel a network of services and products especially designed to make money more accessible to diaspora communities including local cards, and additional savings and payments features.

Weโ€™re growing fast, backed by worldโ€‘class investors, and scaling a product that blends real world impact with cutting edge fintech innovation.

Hereโ€™s a little more:

  • Founded by Harvard grads and 3โ€‘time founders who previously built Segovia (acquired) and GiveDirectly (>$300M revenue, fastestโ€‘growing NGO in the world)

  • Backed by top investors including Spark Capital, Canaan, Reid Hoffman, Breyer Capital, Unbound, Wamda, and more

  • Built by global top performers from Bain, Google, McKinsey, Uber, Checkout, Bolt, and beyond - we move fast, stay humble, and care deeply about our mission

  • Truly global team - 250+ people, 50+ nationalities, 50+ languages

  • Guided by our values - ownership, impact, humility, and heart - in deed, not just word

THE ROLE

Performance marketing is one of our most important growth levers. As we scale across markets, we need someone who can own paid social and paid search endโ€‘toโ€‘end, from strategy through daily execution.

Weโ€™re looking for a Performance Marketing Lead who is genuinely handsโ€‘on: someone who is just as comfortable pulling campaign data at 9am as they are presenting channel strategy to leadership. Youโ€™ll own performance across Meta, TikTok, Google, YouTube, and Google App Campaigns. On some channels youโ€™ll execute directly; on others youโ€™ll direct and manage external agencies.

Youโ€™ll work closely with the Head of Performance Marketing and partner with Brand, Data, and Regional teams to make paid channels perform. This is a highโ€‘ownership role with real budget responsibility and a direct line to growth impact.

WHAT YOUโ€™LL DO

This is a handsโ€‘on execution role with strategic input. Youโ€™ll own paid social and paid search dayโ€‘toโ€‘day, with support from external agencies where needed.

  • Own campaign management across paid social (Meta, TikTok, Snapchat) and paid search (Google Search, Google App Campaigns, YouTube), from setup through optimisation.

  • Hit CAC and ROAS targets across channels, making smart budget decisions in real time based on performance data.

  • Run structured creative tests to identify winning ad formats, hooks, and messaging, and translate results into clear briefs for the creative team.

  • Build and maintain dashboards and reporting that give the team clear visibility into channel performance and efficiency.

  • Manage dayโ€‘toโ€‘day relationships with paid media agencies, holding them accountable to clear deliverables and performance standards.

  • Partner with the Data team on attribution, incrementality testing, and audience segmentation to sharpen targeting and measurement.

  • Monitor platform updates, algorithm changes, and new ad formats, and proactively test whatโ€™s relevant for TapTap Send.

  • Support market expansion by standing up paid channels in new geographies and adapting playbooks to local audiences.

  • Collaborate with Regional teams to localise creative and messaging without losing performance or consistency.

WHAT WEโ€™RE LOOKING FOR

  • You have 6+ years of handsโ€‘on paid marketing experience, with strong working knowledge of both paid social and paid search.

  • Youโ€™ve managed campaigns on Meta and Google (including App Campaigns and YouTube) and know these platforms in detail.

  • Youโ€™re comfortable owning meaningful budgets and making daily optimisation decisions with real accountability.

  • You know how to run creative tests properly: clear hypotheses, clean setups, honest reads on results.

  • Youโ€™re analytical. You can build your own reports, identify whatโ€™s actually driving performance, and communicate findings clearly to nonโ€‘technical stakeholders.

  • You can manage external agencies effectively: setting clear goals, reviewing their work critically, and pushing back when needed.

  • You move fast and are comfortable with ambiguity. You donโ€™t wait for perfect information before making decisions.

  • You care about the output, not just the process. If something isnโ€™t working, you change it.

NICE TO HAVE

  • Experience in fintech, remittances, or consumer financial services.

  • Experience marketing to diaspora or immigrant communities.

  • Experience running acquisition across multiple international markets simultaneously.
