Amerisure is currently recruiting for a Director, Platform Operations that can do a 3-day hybrid approach onsite in our Farmington Hills office. The ideal candidate will also possess the following skill set.
Summary Statement
Lead the strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of the organization's platform ecosystem, overseeing Platform Engineering, Data Platform Engineering, and Cloud Engineering teams. This role owns the reliability, scalability, security, and cost-efficiency of platforms supporting application development, data workloads, and business-critical systems. Operating with a platform-as-a-product mindset, the Director drives operational excellence through automation, observability, and AI-enabled capabilities while partnering with engineering and product leadership to enhance developer productivity, platform adoption, and time-to-market.
Essential Tasks/Major Duties
  • Lead and direct staff in area of responsibility with an emphasis on talent management and succession planning in accordance with the company's strategic direction.
  • Define and execute a unified platform strategy, operating the platform as a product with clear service ownership, roadmaps, and feedback loops, while partnering with engineering and product leadership to drive adoption, developer experience, and business alignment.
  • Own end-to-end platform operations across cloud and hybrid environments, ensuring reliability, scalability, performance, and cost efficiency of all platform services.
  • Establish and lead Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices, owning platform reliability and resilience through SLIs/SLOs, incident management, and continuous improvement.
  • Drive operational excellence through automation and observability, leveraging Infrastructure as Code (IaC), CI/CD, and monitoring frameworks to improve efficiency, scalability, and system insight.
  • Oversee platform and data platform operations, enabling scalable infrastructure that supports application development, analytics, real-time processing, and AI/ML workloads.
  • Define and execute AI-enabled platform strategy, incorporating AIOps for predictive operations and enabling infrastructure for AI/ML workloads, while ensuring governance, security, and responsible AI practices.
  • Ensure platform resilience and governance through disaster recovery, business continuity, and adherence to security and compliance standards (SOC2, ISO 27001, NIST).
  • Drive Cloud Financial Operations (FinOps), including cost optimization, forecasting, and governance across all platform domains.
  • Influence enterprise architecture decisions and drive adoption of platform standards and best practices across engineering teams.
  • Build and lead high-performing teams through hiring, organizational design, and leadership development, mentoring engineering managers and senior engineers.
  • Define and own KPIs, SLAs, and SLOs to measure platform health, reliability, cost efficiency, and developer productivity.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10 years of experience in Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Data Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), with 3 years in engineering leadership managing multiple teams and/or managers.
  • Strong expertise in cloud platforms (AWS preferred; Azure and OCI a plus) and leading large-scale, distributed, cloud-native environments.
  • Deep understanding of Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible), CI/CD, and modern DevOps practices.
  • Experience building and scaling Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs) and enabling self-service infrastructure models.
  • Proven experience operating platforms that support application, data, and AI/ML workloads, including familiarity with data platforms, streaming technologies, and scalable compute environments.
  • Experience with AI/ML infrastructure and AIOps practices to support intelligent, proactive platform operations.
  • Strong expertise in observability, incident response, and reliability engineering practices, including SRE principles (SLIs/SLOs).
  • Experience with FinOps practices, cost optimization, and cloud governance.
  • Deep understanding of security, compliance, and resilience frameworks (SOC2, ISO 27001, NIST, DR/BC).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across organizational boundaries.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on technical credibility.
  • Experience leveraging generative AI tools to enhance engineering productivity and operational efficiency.
