Position Summary

Giving Voice Initiative is seeking an experienced, collaborative, and highly organized Director of Operations to build and lead the internal systems that support a growing national nonprofit organization.


As Giving Voice expands its national impact, this position will oversee the people, processes, and operational infrastructure that enable our staff to do their best work. The Director of Operations will serve as the organization's internal leader for human resources, organizational operations, project management, and administrative systems while fostering a healthy, mission-driven workplace culture.


This role is ideal for someone who enjoys creating clarity from complexity, strengthening organizations behind the scenes, and helping mission-focused teams thrive.


About Giving Voice

Giving Voice transforms lives through the power of music by creating and supporting dementia-friendly choruses that bring people living with dementia, care partners, volunteers, and communities together in joyful connection.


Founded in Minnesota, Giving Voice has grown into a nationally recognized organization supporting communities across the United States through training, technical assistance, research partnerships, and innovative programming while continuing to operate five Twin Cities choruses and multiple Spanish-language programs. Giving Voice is evolving from a regional choir organization into a national capacity-building organization, requiring stronger operational infrastructure to support sustainable growth.


Primary Responsibilities
Human Resources Leadership (30%)

Lead and strengthen all internal HR functions.


Responsibilities include:



  • Coordinate recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and offboarding

  • Maintain employee handbook, policies, and HR documentation

  • Support annual performance review process

  • Coordinate professional development opportunities

  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and nonprofit HR best practices

  • Manage employee benefits administration

  • Serve as primary HR resource for staff

  • Foster a positive, equitable, and mission-driven workplace culture

  • Support staff engagement, recognition, and retention initiatives


Organizational Operations (30%)

Develop and oversee the internal systems that allow Giving Voice to operate efficiently.


Responsibilities include:



  • Lead organizational operations and workflow improvements

  • Develop and maintain organizational policies and procedures

  • Create scalable systems that support national growth

  • Oversee organizational technology and internal software systems

  • Improve documentation and knowledge management

  • Coordinate insurance, licenses, and organizational compliance

  • Support risk management initiatives

  • Monitor organizational performance metrics

  • Develop systems that improve efficiency across departments


Project & Organizational Management (20%)

Coordinate organization-wide projects that require cross-functional collaboration.


Responsibilities include:



  • Manage organization-wide implementation plans

  • Coordinate strategic initiatives across departments

  • Develop project timelines and accountability systems

  • Monitor progress toward organizational priorities

  • Facilitate regular operations meetings

  • Support implementation of strategic planning initiatives

  • Ensure consistent communication across teams

  • Assist with board and committee operational needs as requested


Administrative Oversight (10%)

Provide oversight of organizational administrative systems.


Responsibilities include:



  • Coordinate vendor relationships

  • Support office management systems alongside the Office Manager

  • Maintain organizational records


Leadership & Culture (10%)

Serve as a member of the senior leadership team.


Responsibilities include:



  • Partner closely with the Executive Director on organizational planning

  • Collaborate with program directors on organizational priorities

  • Help develop a culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation

  • Identify operational challenges before they become barriers

  • Champion continuous improvement throughout the organization

  • Model Giving Voice's core values of Joy, Empowerment, Innovation, Collaboration, and Inclusion


Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management, business administration, human resources, organizational leadership, or related field (Master's preferred)

  • 5โ€“10 years of progressive nonprofit operations or organizational leadership experience

  • Experience supervising people and leading HR functions

  • Demonstrated success improving organizational systems and workflows

  • Strong project management skills

  • Experience with nonprofit financial and administrative operations

  • Knowledge of employment law and HR best practices

  • Experience working with boards and executive leadership

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Exceptional organizational skills with strong attention to detail


Preferred Experience

  • Experience working in a growing nonprofit organization

  • Familiarity with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, CRM systems (Little Green Light preferred), and project management software

  • Experience managing organizational change
