Overview
The Global Director of Manufacturing Engineering is a high-level position responsible for overseeing and leading the manufacturing engineering functions across multiple facilities worldwide.
Humanscale is looking for an experienced and dynamic leader who will develop and execute quality, process, and product engineering strategy to achieve key business objectives.
Reporting to the Vice President of Global Operations, s/he will support business growth and operational improvement initiatives by ensuring the appropriate quality, processes and product engineering strategies are in place and are effective to meet customer needs, regulatory requirements, and operational efficiencies. This position will ensure all manufacturing engineering issues are addressed quickly and effectively while ensuring strategic projects are delivered to agreed timescales. The Global Director of Manufacturing Engineering is a critical role to reinforce Humanscale's position as the global ergonomics leader with a reputation for designing intuitive products of the highest quality that improve comfort and health.
Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the global manufacturing engineering strategy in alignment with the company's overall objectives.
  • Process Optimization: Continuously improve manufacturing processes and systems to enhance efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Team Management: Lead and manage a team of manufacturing engineers, providing guidance, coaching, and mentorship to drive performance and innovation.
  • Resource Allocation: Manage budgets, staffing, and resources to ensure optimal utilization and achieve departmental goals.
  • Technonogy Adoption: Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to implement advanced manufacturing techniques and automation.
  • Quality Assurance: Implement and maintain quality control standards to ensure products meet or exceed quality specifications.
  • Global Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, R&D, supply chain, and quality assurance, to ensure seamless global manufacturing operations.
  • Compliance and Regulations: Ensure adherence to relevant industry regulations and standards, as well as environmental, sustainability and safety requirements.
  • Cost Management: Drive cost reduction initiatives while maintaining product quality and operational efficiency.
  • Vendor and Supplier Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers and partners to support manufacturing needs.
  • Continuous Improvement: Champion lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies, such as Six Sigma, to optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Generate and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of manufacturing engineering efforts and make data-driven decisions.
  • Risk Mitigation: Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted manufacturing operations.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate with executives and stakeholders on the progress and challenges of the global manufacturing engineering department.
  • KPI's and Accountability: Create, implement and action meaningful KPI's across engineering functions holding leaders and people accountable. Report and present KPI scorecard monthly / Quarterly VP of Ops and executive team.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree with a scientific or engineering emphasis required. An applicable postgraduate qualification is desirable.
  • 15+ years of Quality leadership experience working in a multi-site manufacturing environment, ideally in a high volume, high mix, assemble-to-order manufacturing environment.
  • 5+ years of Director-level experience in Quality is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience of ISO9001 and ISO13485 quality management is a must. Formal training in quality system management and problem-solving is desirable.
  • Ability to lead in a high pace environment; self-starter with a high sense of urgency.
  • Prior experience in product certifications (UL, CE, TUV) desirable.
  • Previous experience implementing quality within ERP systems is highly desirable.
  • A knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Poke Yoke is desirable.
  • Excellent multi-tasking and organizational skills.
  • Ability to execute priorities and effectively meet milestones.
  • Ability to communicate effectively throughout all levels within the organization both written and verbal.
  • Intellectually curious with a demonstrated ability to lead within a matrixed environment - partners effectively with other functions and across sites in the organization.
  • Strong analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to flex work hours and willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed (up to 25% travel).

Salary Range: $168,630.16 - 245,965.21
In addition to the salary there is a variable pay component. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline. Humanscale considers other factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market location and business considerations when extending an offer.
