Position Overview
Connecticut United Football Club is seeking an analytical, organized, and business-minded Director of Finance to lead the Club's internal financial planning, analysis, budgeting, forecasting, payroll, and financial administration.
The Director of Finance will serve as the Club's primary internal finance resource, working closely with executive leadership and department heads to manage budgets, monitor financial performance, develop forecasts, oversee cash flow, and provide actionable financial analysis to support business decisions.
This is a hands-on position that is well suited for a finance professional who enjoys working in a growing, entrepreneurial organization and wants to play an important role in building the financial infrastructure of a professional sports organization.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the Club's annual budgeting and forecasting processes, monitor financial performance, and provide leadership with clear analysis and recommendations.
  • Prepare and present regular financial reports, including budget-to-actual analysis, revenue and expense trends, and other key financial metrics.
  • Monitor cash flow, financial commitments, and departmental spending while helping ensure the Club maintains appropriate financial controls and processes.
  • Oversee the Club's payroll process and coordinate with payroll providers and internal stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely processing of salaries, commissions, bonuses, and other compensation.
  • Partner with Ticketing, Corporate Partnerships, Merchandise, Academy, Stadium Operations, and other departments to analyze revenue, expenses, and the financial performance of key business initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary internal finance contact for the Club's external accounting and tax providers, reviewing financial information, coordinating requests, and ensuring timely resolution of financial matters.
  • Work closely with department leaders and executive management to provide financial guidance, evaluate opportunities, identify risks, and support sound business decisions.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in finance, FP&A, accounting, or a related field.
  • Strong experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and financial reporting.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial and employee information.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in professional sports, entertainment, events, hospitality, or another multi-revenue business.
  • Experience in FP&A or business finance.
  • Experience overseeing payroll administration.
  • Experience working with outsourced accounting firms or other external financial service providers.
  • Experience building budgets, financial models, and management reporting.
  • CPA, MBA, or other relevant professional designation is a plus, but not required.
  • Familiarity with financial, payroll, HRIS, ticketing, CRM, and other business management systems.
