HEAD OF FINANCE – I-PULSE ALBUQUERQUE

SUMMARY

Reporting to the Group Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Head of Finance – I-Pulse Albuquerque is responsible for leading the finance function for the Albuquerque business unit, a research and development–focused operation which plays a critical role within a growing organization.

The role provides financial leadership, governance, and strategic support to business unit leadership while ensuring alignment with group finance policies, reporting frameworks, and systems. The Head of Finance oversees all financial activities across the Albuquerque entities, including planning, reporting, compliance, and financial control.

Working closely with operational leadership, project teams, and group finance, the role supports financial performance management, R&D program oversight, and funding compliance. The position also plays a key role in strengthening financial governance in preparation for potential future capital markets activity, including IPO readiness and SOX compliance.

The Head of Finance leads the Albuquerque finance team, including the Financial Controller and future supporting accounting staff, ensuring effective local execution of group finance processes while maintaining strong local compliance and operational support.


PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

The role provides financial leadership, governance, and strategic insight to support operational and commercial decision-making while ensuring strong financial controls, accurate reporting, and compliance with group policies and statutory requirements.

Working closely with business unit leadership, project teams, and group finance, the Head of Finance supports the financial management of R&D programs, government-funded initiatives, and commercial opportunities. The role also plays an important part in strengthening financial governance and control frameworks in support of the group’s broader strategic objectives, including potential IPO readiness and SOX compliance.

The Head of Finance oversees the Albuquerque finance team, including the Financial Controller and any future local accounting/transactional staff, ensuring effective execution of day-to-day finance activities while maintaining alignment with group finance standards.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Leadership and Business Partnership

  • Provide financial leadership and strategic support to the Albuquerque business unit, partnering with operational and technical leadership to support business performance and decision-making.
  • Act as the senior finance partner for R&D programs and operational projects, supporting project costing, financial performance tracking, and funding management.
  • Translate financial performance and data into clear insights to support operational, commercial, and strategic decisions.
  • Support leadership in assessing strategic opportunities, including new R&D initiatives, partnerships, and growth opportunities.


Financial Planning and Performance Management

  • Oversee the budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes for the Albuquerque business unit in alignment with group finance frameworks.
  • Monitor business unit financial performance against plans and targets, identifying risks, opportunities, and corrective actions.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of monthly management accounts and financial reporting submitted to group finance.
  • Provide financial modelling and scenario analysis to support strategic planning, investment decisions, and capital allocation.


Commercial and Strategic Finance

  • Provide financial input into the evaluation and structuring of R&D programs, technology development initiatives, and commercial opportunities.
  • Support pricing decisions, contract negotiations, and funding arrangements, particularly for government contracts and research funding programs.
  • Develop financial models and business cases to support strategic initiatives and major investment decisions.
  • Ensure financial considerations are embedded in business unit strategy, project planning, and long-term growth initiatives.


Financial Reporting, Governance, and Controls

  • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting for the Albuquerque entities in accordance with US GAAP and group reporting requirements.
  • Maintain strong financial governance, internal controls, and finance policies across the business unit.
  • Support the CFO and group finance team with consolidated reporting, financial analysis, and financial planning processes.
  • Strengthen financial processes, documentation, and controls to support a scalable and well-governed finance function.


Tax, Audit, and Regulatory Compliance

  • Oversee compliance with all applicable direct and indirect tax obligations, including corporate income tax, sales and use tax, payroll tax, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise the preparation of tax filings and reporting in coordination with the Financial Controller and external advisors.
  • Lead the business unit’s engagement with external auditors for annual statutory and group audits.
  • Ensure the finance team maintains appropriate documentation and processes to support audit readiness and financial assurance requirements.
  • Monitor tax and regulatory developments that may impact the Albuquerque operations.


Government Contracts and Funding Compliance

  • Ensure financial compliance with requirements associated with government contracts, grants, and funding programs, including financial reporting, cost tracking, and documentation requirements.
  • Support the implementation of appropriate financial controls and cost management processes for government-funded R&D activities.
  • Work with operational and project leadership to ensure compliance with funding conditions and reporting obligations.


IPO Readiness and SOX Compliance

  • Support group initiatives related to IPO readiness, including strengthening financial reporting processes, governance structures, and financial documentation.
  • Contribute to the implementation and maintenance of SOX-compliant internal control frameworks across the business unit.
  • Ensure finance processes and reporting practices meet the standards expected in a public-company environment.


Finance Team Leadership and Operations

  • Lead and develop the Albuquerque finance team, including the Financial Controller and future supporting accounting staff.
  • Oversee the effective execution of day-to-day finance operations including accounting, reporting, and compliance activities.
  • Ensure the successful implementation and use of group finance systems, policies, and reporting tools within the business unit.
  • Drive continuous improvement in finance processes, reporting quality, and operational efficiency.


Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related discipline
  • Professional accounting qualification required (CPA, CA, ACCA or equivalent)
  • 15+ years of progressive finance experience including leadership responsibilities
  • Experience working within a multi-entity or group environment
  • Experience supporting project-based, R&D, engineering, or technology organizations preferred
  • Experience with government contracts, grants, or regulated funding environments advantageous
  • Familiarity with IPO readiness processes, public-company reporting, or SOX compliance preferred
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
