What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Director of Experience Design, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Director of Experience Design, you need deep expertise in user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design, along with a proven track record in leading cross-functional design teams and a relevant degree in design or related fields. Proficiency with design tools such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and familiarity with prototyping and user research platforms are typically required. Exceptional leadership, strategic thinking, and communication skills distinguish top candidates in this role. These capabilities are vital for driving innovative, user-centered design solutions that align with business goals and deliver outstanding customer experiences.

How does a Director of Experience Design typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive user-centered solutions?

As a Director of Experience Design, you will regularly work alongside product managers, engineers, marketing teams, and business stakeholders to ensure that user needs are at the forefront of project decisions. Effective collaboration involves leading workshops, facilitating design sprints, and communicating design rationales to both creative and non-creative partners. You'll also mentor design teams, foster a shared vision, and align user experience strategies with business objectives, making strong interpersonal and leadership skills essential for success in this role.

Can a UX designer make 300k?

While some senior UX designers and experience design leaders can earn salaries approaching or exceeding $300,000, such compensation typically requires extensive experience, leadership roles, or working in high-cost markets. Companies continue to prioritize intuitive interfaces and user experience, making skills in design tools, user research, and prototyping essential for career growth in this field.

Is UI/UX replaced by AI?

As a Director of Experience Design, it is important to understand that AI can assist in automating certain UI/UX tasks, such as user data analysis and prototyping, but it does not fully replace the need for human-centered design, creativity, and strategic thinking. AI tools are used to enhance design processes rather than replace the role of experienced designers. Successful experience design still relies on understanding user needs and applying design principles that AI cannot replicate entirely.

Is UX a dead field?

As a Director of Experience Design, UX remains a vital and evolving field focused on creating user-centered digital experiences. The demand for UX professionals continues to grow as organizations prioritize customer satisfaction, usability, and innovative design, supported by tools like prototyping software and user research methods.

Location: Westlake, TX
Role Summary
The Director of UI/UX Design is a strategic design leader responsible for driving end-to-end experience transformation across Solera's digital products. This role leads the evolution of user experience by embedding AI-driven design, automation, and data-informed decisioning into product development.
You will partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Data teams to deliver intuitive, scalable, and intelligent user experiences that improve customer outcomes and accelerate platform modernization.
Key Responsibilities
AI-Driven Experience Transformation
  • Define and execute a UX vision aligned to AI-enabled product strategy (GenAI, ML-driven personalization, automation)
  • Identify and deliver high-impact transformation initiatives that simplify workflows and enhance decision-making
  • Embed responsible AI principles (transparency, bias mitigation, usability) into all experiences

Product & Platform Design Leadership
  • Lead UX design for enterprise-scale SaaS platforms, ensuring consistency across complex product ecosystems
  • Translate business and technical requirements into intuitive, user-centered experiences
  • Drive design for data-rich and AI-powered interfaces (insights dashboards, recommendations, automation flows)
  • Cross-Functional Execution
  • Partner with Product, Engineering, Data Science, and GTM leaders to align on roadmap and priorities
  • Influence product strategy and architecture decisions through design leadership
  • Ensure seamless integration of UX into Agile and continuous delivery models

Team Leadership & Capability Building
  • Build and lead a high-performing global UX team (product designers, UX researchers, design ops)
  • Establish design standards, systems, and governance to scale consistency and efficiency
  • Coach teams on AI-first design thinking and experimentation

Data-Driven Optimization
  • Define and track UX KPIs (adoption, engagement, task success, efficiency)
  • Leverage analytics, user research, and experimentation to continuously improve experiences
  • Drive experience measurement tied to business outcomes (conversion, retention, productivity)

Qualifications
  • 10+ years in UX/UI design, with 5+ years in leadership roles
  • Proven experience leading digital transformation initiatives in SaaS or platform environments
  • Strong exposure to AI/ML-enabled products or data-driven design
  • Experience scaling UX across global, multi-product ecosystems
  • Deep expertise in design systems, interaction design, and user research
  • Strong executive communication and stakeholder influence skills

What Success Looks Like
AI-enabled UX experiences reduce friction and increase automation
Design becomes a core driver of product strategy, not just execution
Consistent, scalable UX across Solera platforms
Measurable improvements in user adoption, efficiency, and customer satisfaction
Why This Role Matters
This role is critical to advancing Solera's shift toward AI-powered, intelligent platforms, ensuring that complex data and automation capabilities are delivered through simple, intuitive, and high-impact user experiences.
