Job description

This position is only open to current SCH employees.

Position Purpose

The SCHout Conference Director leads the planning, development, and execution of the annual SCHout Conference. Working in partnership with the Director of DEIB, DEI Council, Student Facilitators, and school stakeholders, the Director cultivates student leadership, facilitates leadership development experiences throughout the school year, and ensures Student Facilitators are prepared to successfully lead the conference and sustain their growth as leaders beyond the event. The Director oversees all aspects of conference planning and implementation while supporting a student-centered vision rooted in dialogue, identity, belonging, and social action. This position, which starts on September 8, 2026, is open only to internal candidates.

Essential Functions

I. Student Leadership Development

  • Advises and supports Student Facilitators throughout the planning and implementation of SCHout.
  • Cultivates a cohesive, collaborative, and accountable student leadership community.
  • Develops and facilitates leadership training for Student Facilitators.
  • Provides education and dialogue opportunities related to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and social justice.
  • Guides Student Facilitators in the development of Social Action Workshops (SAWs), from initial research through workshop design, presentation development, and facilitation.
  • Establishes and maintains timelines, benchmarks, and accountability structures for student leaders.
  • Meets regularly with student workshop groups to ensure preparedness and successful implementation.

II. Conference Planning and Program Development

  • Oversees all aspects of conference planning and execution.
  • Collaborates with student leaders to determine the annual conference theme and programmatic vision.
  • Coordinates the identification, selection, and preparation of conference speakers and presenters.
  • Ensures that Social Action Workshop offerings represent a broad range of identities, experiences, and perspectives.
  • Reviews workshop content and provides feedback to ensure educational quality and alignment with conference goals.
  • Prepares Student Facilitators to lead key conference responsibilities, including welcoming attendees, facilitating home groups, introducing speakers, leading workshops, and supporting visitors throughout the day.

III. Operations and Logistics

  • Coordinates conference scheduling, room assignments, and event space reservations.
  • Oversees the conference registration process, including registration platform management, attendee tracking, and communications.
  • Collaborates with Marketing and Communications to develop and implement conference marketing materials and outreach efforts.
  • Maintains and expands relationships with regional schools, DEIB practitioners, and community partners.
  • Coordinates adult learning opportunities and professional development experiences offered as part of the conference.
  • Oversees food service, materials preparation, technology needs, signage, and event-day logistics.

IV. Budget and Communications

  • Manages the SCHout conference budget in partnership with the DEIB Office.
  • Oversees purchasing of conference materials, supplies, student facilitator apparel, and related resources.
  • Coordinates contracts, payments, and logistical needs for guest speakers and presenters.
  • Communicates regularly with internal stakeholders regarding conference planning and operational needs.
  • Communicates with conference attendees before the event to provide information related to registration, parking, schedules, expectations, and event logistics.
  • Ensures smooth communication among students, faculty, staff, presenters, and external participants throughout the planning process.

Additional Expectations

  • Attend planning meetings and student leadership training sessions throughout the fall and winter.
  • Attend conference preparation meetings and event-day activities.
  • Participate in conference evaluation and post-event reflection to support future planning and growth of the SCHout Conference.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and social justice education.
  • Experience working with and developing student leaders.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and timelines.
  • Ability to facilitate discussions on identity, belonging, and social issues with adolescents and adults.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, families, and external partners.
  • Experience planning and coordinating events preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders.

  • Regularly uses close and distance vision.
  • Able to move throughout campus and conference spaces during planning and event execution.
  • Must be available to attend student leadership meetings, conference planning meetings, and the SCHout Conference.
