Job Summary and Qualifications

​​The Director for Nursing Excellence functions in the role of clinical leader to promote, develop, and assist with fostering innovation and excellence in nursing practice throughout the organization. The Director is responsible for advancing nursing practice and innovation through organizational shared decision-making councils, unit practice councils, evidence-based practice, and nursing research. The Director for Nursing Excellence works closely with leadership and staff in successfully executing initiatives throughout the organization and (when applicable) ANCC designation programs such as Magnet® and /Pathway to Excellence®. ​ 

What you will do in the role:

  • ​Collaborates with leadership and staff to promote a culture of evidence-based practice, nursing research, innovation, excellence, and recognition.
  •  ​Collaborates with clinical nurses and leadership to develop and embed the nursing professional practice model into nursing practice throughout the organization.
  •  ​Creates and implements innovative ways to transform organizational culture, systems and services. 
  • ​Seeks opportunities to improve department or interdepartmental processes, resulting in more efficient or effective services. 
  • ​Designs complex system-level process improvement initiatives and maintains oversight of the collecting and analyzing of process improvement data as it relates to NDNQI, patient experience, nursing satisfaction, professional certification and BSN rates. Disseminates data to appropriate units and assists with action planning when benchmarks are not being attained.
  • Conducts organizational assessments/gap analyses to meet identified areas of focus for improvement.
  • Collaborates with department directors/clinical managers to facilitate effective change throughout the organization. 
  • Develops and implements organizational strategies and infrastructure to support clinical quality, operational effectiveness, and shared decision making.
  • ​Assumes responsibility for submitting applications, interim monitoring reports, and documents for professional nursing designation programs (initial and re-designation) including business plan and annual budget related to program expenses.
  • ​Serves as a liaison with all departments in the organization to promote nursing excellence.
  • ​Oversees shared decision-making council structure (unit and organizational) and mentors clinical staff in leadership skills to ensure successful shared decision structures and processes.
  • Leads nursing recognition programs, such as Daisy, nursing certification day, nursing week, etc.
  • ​Serves as liaison between leadership, outside certifying organizations, staff, physicians, and the community. 
  • Participates in interdepartmental activities and committees as requested in order to improve nursing practice and patient care.
  • ​Maintains current knowledge of applicable policies and procedures as evident in performance.
  • ​Designs and produces reports/trended data/graphs etc. as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.​
What qualifications you will need:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • (RN) Registered Nurse
  • Masters Degree, or Bachelors Degree required
  • 5+ years of clinical leadership managing large scale and/or complex project
