Job description

Inova Alexandria Hospital is seeking a strategic and operational leader for nursing resource management, float pool operations, patient flow, and hospital staffing. This leader drives accountability, develops high-performing teams, and partners across professional practice and interdisciplinary teams to optimize workforce utilization, patient throughput, and operational performance. The Director serves as a subject matter expert in nursing informatics and operational analytics, using data and insights to support strategic decision-making, improve outcomes, and advance an exceptional patient and team member experience in alignment with Inova's mission, vision, and values.

The Director Nursing Operations oversees assigned area to ensure it is performing effectively, which may include but not limited to, preparing and implementing business strategy to achieve the organization's goals, ensuring legal compliance, communicating and collaborating with stakeholders, managing employment decisions and contributions of supporting team members, and managing departmental budget and fiscal success. Provides oversight of the nursing support float pool and serves as point of contact and subject matter expert for the system nursing resource pool. Responsible for oversight of team and ensuring best outcomes and an exceptional workplace and team member experience in alignment with Inova's mission, vision and values. Serves as representative for the Inova Resource Center and provides nursing informatics, analysis, data, and insights on hospital staffing and patient flow functioning on a regular basis.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the oversight of the hospital float pool(s) and ensures best practice in patient flow, flexible resources, and hospital off-shift operations and policies to meet demand. 
  • Facilitates communication throughout all levels of the organization regarding programmatic, patient throughput and other issues pertaining to areas of responsibility. Keeps leadership and stakeholders abreast of operational best practices and challenges
  • Serves as subject matter expert for nursing informatics and interpretation.
  • Coordinates and monitors the development of long-range plans and annual budgets for assigned clinical areas and function.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Licensure - Licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse
  • Experience - 5 years of strong progressive career in nursing clinical practice and leadership with substantial strategic and operational experience in developing and leading large scale nursing programs
  • Education - Bachelors Degree in Nursing

Preferred Requirements: 

  • Demonstrated experience leading nursing operations, hospital staffing, patient flow, resource management, or float pool operations.
  • Strong accountability and demonstrated ability to lead, develop, motivate, and engage high-performing teams.
  • Experience overseeing large, diverse clinical teams, including workforce planning, scheduling, performance management, and employee engagement
