Job description

For over 35 years, Sister Schools has connected students in the Puget Sound region with peers in Uganda through experiences rooted in generosity, shared humanity, and the transformative power of education. Our model creates dual impact — deepening global citizenship and empathy in students on both sides of the partnership, while building lasting cross-cultural relationships between schools and communities.

We are growing, and we're looking for purpose-driven professionals to join our Board of Directors.

About the Role

This is a hands-on governance role for someone who is ready to lead, contribute, and make a tangible difference. Board members bring their professional expertise to strengthen our strategy, deepen our community presence, and help ensure Sister Schools continues to thrive for the next generation of students.

We are seeking board members located in the Seattle Metro Area, as we hold meetings and events in person.

What You'll Do

  • Participate in strategic planning, financial oversight, and organizational governance
  • Serve as a visible ambassador for Sister Schools in the greater Seattle community
  • Attend bimonthly board meetings and serve on at least one committee
  • Support resource development and fundraising in ways that align with your strengths — whether through network cultivation, donor stewardship, or contributing to development strategy
  • Partner with the Executive Director and fellow board members to advance the mission and long-term impact of the organization

We welcome professionals from a wide range of backgrounds. You may be a strong fit if you bring experience in:

  • Education, social services, or international development (we truly value the perspective of educators on our board and have several former teachers/ principals on the current Board)
  • Law / legal affairs

  • Business development, philanthropy, or community leadership

Across all backgrounds, we value:
