Job description

Senior Software Engineer

Location: Hybrid - Exton, PA / Philadelphia / Alabama, Huntsville

Visa sponsorship is not available for this role

The Opportunity:

Bentley Systems is seeking an exceptional Software Engineer to build industry-shaping platform capabilities, intelligent cloud services, AI-native development workflows, and products that transform how infrastructure professionals work. This is not a routine feature-delivery role. It is an opportunity to help create a next-generation, AI-enabled forms service that becomes a foundational layer for how infrastructure professionals capture field knowledge, coordinate decisions, and transform complex project activity into actionable intelligence across the Bentley Cloud Platform.

The right engineer will thrive on hard technical problems: designing resilient services, integrating AI agents into real engineering workflows, improving developer velocity, and building systems that matter far beyond a single product surface. You will not simply maintain software, you will shape a strategic platform capability that can influence how infrastructure is planned, built, operated, and improved around the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and build the foundation for next-generation, AI-enabled forms workflows that turn field data, project activity, and human decisions into intelligent, actionable systems.
  • Integrate AI agents into the development lifecycle to improve engineering productivity, accelerate delivery, and redefine how high-performing teams build and operate software.
  • Collaborate with a strong agile engineering team using modern continuous integration and delivery practices to ship reliable cloud platform capabilities quickly and safely.
  • Translate ambiguous customer, product, and platform needs into crisp technical requirements, architecture decisions, and scalable implementation plans.
  • Evolve and harden existing services so they become more resilient, observable, performant, secure, and ready for AI-augmented workflows.
  • Design and deliver new platform features, services, and web experiences that solve complex collaboration challenges for infrastructure professionals at global scale.
  • Operate in a fast-moving, AI-paced, DevOps-oriented environment where engineers own outcomes end to end, from design and implementation to deployment, telemetry, and continuous improvement.
  • Integrate cloud services into a modern product architecture that supports scale, extensibility, reliability, and intelligent automation across the Bentley Cloud Platform.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience building production-grade software systems.
  • 6+ years of software engineering experience, with a track record of designing, delivering, and improving reliable services or products used in production.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical tradeoffs clearly and collaborate effectively across engineering, product, and stakeholder groups.
  • A rapid learner who can move from ambiguity to clarity, adopt emerging tools quickly, and use AI-enabled workflows to amplify personal and team productivity.
  • High ownership mindset: self-directed, collaborative, pragmatic, and motivated to raise the technical bar for the team and platform.
  • This role does not require travel
  • Requires sitting or standing at will while performing work on a computer (or any otherย physical requirements)

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience building with AI agents, AI-assisted development workflows, or intelligent automation in production engineering environments.
  • Strong hands-on engineering skills with C#, SQL, .NET Standard/Core, Git, and modern software development practices.
  • Experience designing, building, and operating cloud services, REST APIs, and distributed service integrations.
  • Knowledge of agile scrum development, test-driven development, continuous delivery, observability, and DevOps practices.
  • Deep understanding of object-oriented design, design patterns, system design tradeoffs, and advanced programming concepts.

Optional Skills:

  • Experience with TypeScript, Cosmos DB, cloud-native application patterns, or front-end platforms that support rich enterprise workflows.
  • Experience with Microsoft development tools, unit testing frameworks, developer automation, or modern engineering productivity toolchains.
