Job description

Allara is a comprehensive women’s health provider that specializes in expert, longitudinal care that supports women through every life stage. Trusted by over 60,000 women nationwide, Allara makes expert healthcare accessible by connecting patients with multidisciplinary care teams that have a deep understanding of hormonal, metabolic, and reproductive care. Allara provides ongoing support for hormonal conditions like PCOS, chronic conditions like insulin resistance, and life stages like perimenopause, helping patients see improved health outcomes. As one of the fastest-growing women’s health platforms in the U.S., Allara is bridging long-overlooked gaps in healthcare for women.

The Opportunity:

Allara is hiring a Senior Engineering Manager to lead and grow a team of engineers building the technology that powers expert, longitudinal care for women's hormonal, metabolic, and reproductive health. You'll partner closely with product, design, and clinical stakeholders to deliver high-impact features while staying hands-on in the code. This is a player-coach role where you'll shape team direction, own measurable outcomes, and directly contribute to the platform serving 60,000+ patients nationwide. You'll lead a team of 4 engineers, with plans to grow to 6-7.

Location: Hybrid (NYC). We value in-person collaboration and aim for at least three days per week in our NYC office, with flexibility as needed.

Your Impact

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement

  • Stay hands-on by writing and shipping code roughly 30-50% of the time, setting the technical bar through direct contribution

  • Own a clear mission or product area, driving the roadmap and being accountable for the KPIs that measure its success

  • Drive the integration of AI and agentic systems into the platform, identifying high-leverage opportunities to improve patient experience and care delivery through LLM-powered features

  • Partner with product, design, and clinical leadership to translate business and patient-care goals into well-scoped technical initiatives

  • Drive engineering quality through code review, architectural guidance, and pragmatic technical decision-making

  • Run effective team rituals (standups, planning, retros, 1:1s) and manage performance, career development, and hiring for your team

  • Identify and remove blockers, balance technical debt against new product work, and ensure on-time, high-quality delivery

Required Qualifications

  • 2-4 years of direct experience managing a team of software engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career development

  • 5+ years of hands-on software engineering experience shipping production features in a service-oriented or distributed architecture, with the ability and willingness to contribute code at 30-50% capacity

  • Proficiency with modern web technologies such as TypeScript, React, Node.js, and RESTful APIs

  • Proven track record of delivering complex, cross-functional projects from scope through launch

  • Experience guiding technical direction by validating IC-driven proposals against broader architectural goals

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Strong sense of ownership and a bias toward action in a fast-paced, evolving environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in healthcare, telehealth, or another regulated industry (HIPAA-aware environments a plus)

  • Experience scaling engineering teams or processes at a high-growth startup

  • Track record of driving and delivering AI agentic products in production, with hands-on experience in LLM orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, LlamaIndex), vector databases, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and evaluation/observability tooling for LLM systems

What Allara Offers:

  • Compensation & Career Growth

    • $225,000-$262,500 with opportunities for advancement

    • Equity

    • Professional development & employee learning programs

Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to: candidate experience, location, education, certifications, and skill set. In addition to base salary, our total compensation package includes equity, comprehensive health benefits (medical, dental, vision), generous paid time off, and additional wellness and professional development perks.
