POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Math is a strategic instructional leader responsible for strengthening mathematics teaching and learning across Legends Charter School. This leader ensures rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum implementation, delivers high-impact professional learning, and builds systems that use data to drive measurable gains in student achievement.
The Director of Math will be deeply familiar with and able to support implementation of high-quality instructional materials and assessment systems, including Eureka Math, Illustrative Math, i-Ready Math, and data analysis protocols. The role requires strong expertise in curriculum design, adult learning, formative assessment, and coaching practices.
This position sits within the Office of Curriculum and Instruction, which spans four core competency areas:
  1. Curriculum
  2. Professional Learning
  3. Enrichment and Intervention
  4. Formative Assessment

The Director of Math will support school-based staff in implementing Legends' existing academic programs while simultaneously reimagining and strengthening math programming, instructional resources, and professional development systems. This leader will also oversee the implementation of OWL (Ongoing Work-Based Learning), Legends' school-based professional development model.
In partnership with school leadership, the Director of Math will advance STEM integration and build relationships with external organizations, institutions of higher education, nonprofit partners, and professional networks to enhance student learning opportunities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Curriculum & Instruction
  • Lead the development, refinement, and implementation of a rigorous, standards-aligned K-8 mathematics curriculum aligned to the Common Core State Standards.
  • Ensure high-fidelity implementation of Eureka Math, Illustrative Math, and other adopted curricular resources.
  • Establish clear criteria and frameworks for high-quality math instruction that prepare students for college, career, and life.
  • Support vertical alignment across grade levels to ensure coherence and acceleration of student learning.

Data & Assessment
  • Lead schoolwide use of i-Ready Math and other formative and summative assessment tools to monitor student growth and mastery.
  • Analyze assessment data to identify trends, achievement gaps, and instructional priorities.
  • Develop and implement data cycles that support teachers and leaders in making real-time instructional adjustments.
  • Present actionable data insights to senior leadership and key stakeholder groups.

Professional Learning & Coaching
  • Design and deliver high-impact professional development aligned to adult learning theory and instructional best practices.
  • Provide coaching, modeling, co-planning, and co-teaching support to improve instructional effectiveness.
  • Facilitate train-the-trainer sessions and ensure sustainability of professional learning systems.
  • Assess teacher and leader needs, including in dual language and extended year programs, and develop targeted learning opportunities.
  • Oversee the implementation of OWL (Ongoing Work-Based Learning) as Legends embedded professional development model.

Enrichment & Intervention
  • Develop and oversee math intervention systems to support struggling learners and close achievement gaps.
  • Collaborate with school leaders to implement enrichment opportunities that challenge advanced learners.
  • Ensure intervention programming is data-driven and aligned to core instruction.

Leadership & Strategic Planning
  • Develop detailed implementation timelines for key initiatives and monitor progress toward goals.
  • Anticipate, identify, and resolve challenges that may impede program success.
  • Build strong relationships with principals, instructional leaders, and teachers to ensure collaboration and alignment.
  • Engage external partners to enhance STEM opportunities and expand real-world learning experiences.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and evaluation of math instructional staff as needed.
