Job description

The Legal Department at TelevisaUnivision is looking for a Senior Director of Legal Operations to join our team!

The Senior Director of Legal Operations is the operational, technical and business management leader for the Legal department, partnering with Legal leadership to establish and execute the department's operating strategy and drive efficiency, scalability, financial discipline and continuous improvement.

In this position you will help develop, refine and promote the legal department's short and long-term operations plan, including managing law firm and third-party vendor management programs, optimizing financial resources leveraging technology and supporting the development and implementation of a sound annual plan.

The role will report to the SVP, Chief Privacy Officer and Head of Legal Operations, and will serve as key business partner to Legal team leadership. This position will interface with Finance, HR and other cross-functional partners across the team and company to drive meaningful operational improvements.

ABOUT YOU:

You are a strategic Legal Operations leader who combines strong business acumen with deep operational and technical expertise. You are comfortable navigating complex organizations, independently identifying opportunities for improvement, and translating strategy into practical execution.

You bring strong project and relationship management skills and have a demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders at all levels, manage complex initiatives, negotiate with external partners, and build scalable processes. You are data- and technology-savvy, curious about emerging AI capabilities, and able to identify where technology can meaningfully improve the effectiveness and efficiency of a Legal department.

YOUR DAY-DAY: (aka Responsibilities)

Strategic Planning & Execution
  • Provide creative thinking to help identify and develop cutting-edge strategies for increasing value and reducing outside legal spend, while maintaining excellent legal representation and optimizing engagement practices with our law firms.
  • Manage other strategic plans or initiatives to make the legal department more efficient, as delegated by the SVP, Chief Privacy Officer and Head of Legal Operations, and other Legal team leadership.
  • Create metrics and monitor progress to measure success against strategic plans.
  • Benchmark both internally and externally to stay on top of current trends and emerging and best practices and opportunities to improve the team's operating model and performance.

Finance and Budget Management

  • Partner with Legal leadership, finance and procurement to develop and manage the legal annual operating plan and all department budgets. Work as primary interface between the legal department and finance.
  • Identify, collect, and report on key performance indicators and metrics on a global basis that are meaningful and relevant in ascertaining the legal team's budget management performance, including spend analysis, efficiency initiatives and technology.
  • Manage and develop Billing Supervisor and oversee Legal billing operations and related processes.
Legal Information Technology and Artificial Intelligence
  • Lead the Legal department's technology and AI strategy, identifying opportunities to leverage existing and emerging technologies to improve productivity, automate processes, enhance knowledge management, reduce costs and mitigate risks.
  • Assess and implement technology (e.g., matter management, knowledge management, Evisort, ethics and compliance, document management, electronic billing and compliance systems), including tools with AI-enable functionality, to streamline operations, improve cost effectiveness and implement best in class systems and processes.
  • Lead continuous process improvement initiatives and work with IT on automation as needed.
  • Work closely with selected electronic billing provider to implement system enhancements, run detailed reports within the software tool and create spend dashboards.
Outside Counsel and Legal Vendor Management
  • Update and manage master retention agreements, billing guidelines, and pricing models for outside counsel.
  • Develop tracking and reporting systems to monitor pricing performance and savings across engagements.
  • Manage relationships with outside counsel and vendors, including conducting RFPs and negotiating fee arrangements.
Communications & Administration
  • Align legal workflows with department priorities to increase efficiency, leveraging technology.
  • Manage new hire onboarding in collaboration with HR, training, and policy implementation for the legal team.
  • Collaborate with HR, IT, and other departments on company-wide initiatives.

Talent Management and Education

  • Track and maintain records for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements for all lawyers
  • Manage and provide regular CLE programming, both live and asynchronously, for Department lawyers.

YOU HAVE: (aka Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's Degree preferably in Business, Finance or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • 15 plus years of total work experience in operations or law firm management, ten years in legal operations.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing strategic and operational plans and delivering measurable improvements in efficiency, cost, quality, and service.
  • In-depth understanding of law firm billing, pricing and compensation practices
  • Demonstrated experience with alternative fee arrangement cost modeling
  • At least two years' experience evaluating, implementing and using legal technology, automation, and AI-enabled solutions (including contract lifecycle management, electronic billing and ediscovery), with a demonstrated ability to translate technology capabilities into meaningful business improvements and cost efficiencies.
  • Technology- and AI-savvy; proficient in all Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel; expertise with electronic billing and contract management software.
