About the Role

Join Howard University Hospital — a DC Level 1 Trauma Center and the nation's only teaching hospital on the campus of a historically Black university — as our Director of Specialty Outpatient Services. In this role, you will lead our Outpatient Services portfolio, including the Infusion Clinic, Outpatient Diabetes Clinic, Wound Care RN services, Transportation, and the Outpatient Wound Clinic. You will be accountable for the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of care across these areas, and you will play an integral role in developing and implementing the strategic initiatives that drive growth and excellence in ambulatory care.

What You'll Do

  • Recruit, develop, and retain high-performing teams, providing guidance and direction that moves your staff toward shared goals while fostering a work environment that meets both individual and organizational needs.
  • Ensure local, state, federal, and Joint Commission (JCAHO) regulatory compliance across all assigned areas.
  • Partner with senior executives to develop annual operating and capital budgets, and hold accountability for meeting or exceeding financial performance targets.
  • Lead performance improvement initiatives that achieve targeted outcomes.
  • Drive patient, employee, and physician satisfaction toward targeted goals.
  • Plan, develop, and implement strategic initiatives for the service line.
  • Maintain your professional certification through ongoing training.
  • Collaborate with HUH leadership on initiatives that impact ambulatory growth strategies.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
  • Master's degree in Nursing or related field required, or completion within two years of hire.
  • Minimum of five years of healthcare experience.
  • Minimum of three years as a nurse leader, including experience in systems-level leadership.
  • Current Registered Nurse license in the District of Columbia.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Leadership or specialty certification within one year of hire.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the practice and scope of nursing, with the ability to plan and direct the delivery of nursing services.
  • Strong managerial and administrative leadership skills, including the ability to develop and implement strategic objectives, motivate staff, and manage resources effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present information and respond tactfully to patients, families, medical staff, colleagues, and the public.
  • Strong critical-thinking and data-driven decision-making skills that weigh cost, benefit, risk, and organizational impact.
  • Ability to cope effectively under stress and time constraints while exercising sound judgment, and to maintain confidentiality of patient and proprietary information.
