The Manager establishes and implements a triage process for litigation support requests and assigns work to the Resource Team accordingly. The members of the Resource Team will be embedded in certain regional and program offices, where they will provide dedicated litigation support while remaining available for surge support to the organization. The Manager also provides litigation support in cases and matters organization-wide when programs/offices need additional capacity to meet filing deadlines, manage large document reviews, or support trials, hearings, and other high-intensity litigation phases.
The Manager is responsible for working with the Director of Legal Training and Development to identify, create, and deliver training that strengthens litigation support capabilities across Earthjustice. The Manager coordinates with litigation leadership, regional and programmatic offices, and other departments across the organization to ensure that centralized support is efficient, equitable, and consistent quality. The Litigation Resource Team Manager may work hybrid from the following locations: Preference for Chicago, IL, Los Angeles, CA, San Francisco, CA, New York, NY, or Washington, DC, and open to other Earthjustice offices.
- Establish and serve as central intake point for requests for surge litigation support and ongoing work for dedicated offices/programs; and assign resource team members accordingly.
- Develop criteria and protocols for prioritizing work, escalating requests, and resolving competing requests.
- Partner with the Sr. Program Manager of Litigation Practice to measure impact and improve support of the Resource team.
- Recruit and maintain a vetted pool of contract paralegals to support longer-term needs in partnership with HR Recruitment.
- Partner with the Litigation Practice team to develop and deliver organization-wide training and resources for litigation assistants, paralegals, and legal practice staff.
- Build and maintain a centralized knowledge base of litigation resources such as filing guides, templates, and checklists.
- Partner with litigation leadership, legal operations, and information technology teams to evaluate and implement new tools as technology evolves.
- Provide a range of litigation support such as editing, cite-checking, proofreading, formatting, assembling, serving, and filing legal documents.
- Draft pleadings or case related documents such as motions, status reports, procedural pleadings, comment letters, FOIA and public record requests.
- Support all aspects of discovery and administrative record review such as conducting document review.
- Coordinate logistics for trials, administrative hearings, or other proceedings.
- Supervise the resource litigation assistants and paralegals on the centralized team, including hiring, onboarding, daily oversight, coaching, and performance management.
- Delegate and oversee legal support work across team assignments.
- Partner with dedicated office/programs to gather and share feedback on team members’ work.
- Uphold Earthjustice’s mission and values by fostering a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative work environment, providing clear direction and feedback, and promoting a culture of learning for all team members.
