Registered Nurse - Psychiatry Department

    • The Albert J. Lurie Psychiatric Unit (6 East) is a 28-bed adult inpatient acute psychiatric unit for patients 18 years of age and older admitted voluntarily or involuntarily with a primary diagnosis of acute mental illness and present as a danger to self and/or others. The most common psychiatric diagnoses we treat include depression, schizoaffective disorder, schizophrenia, and bipolar affect disorder.
    • We provide our patients with a safe and therapeutic treatment environment. We reintegrate patients into the community in the safest and most appropriate setting and with links to the most appropriate outpatient treatment resources. Services we offer include multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment, psychotropic medication management, group activities, activities of daily living, therapeutic milieu, electroconvulsive treatment and linkage to outpatient services.
    • Multi-disciplinary treatment involves a medical director, attending psychiatrists, internist, advance practice nurses, registered nurses, mental health workers, unit secretaries, occupational therapist, activities coordinator, Thresholds hospital liaison staff, patient care coordinator and unit director.

General Summary

    • Provides nursing care by individualizing interventions for patients with problems of
    • routine nature
    • Utilizing the nursing process, identifies complex variables and inter-relationships of theassessment data
    • Participates in discharge planning needs into plan for care and initiates processes to obtain necessary referrals to assist patient / family and expedite discharge
    • Implement physician and nursing orders as appropriate involving patient, family andsignificant others

Minimum Requirements

    • 1 Year of Psych Nursing Experience (Required).
    • Currently licensed as a Registered Professional Nurse in the State of Illinois.
    • Current BLS Card (Required American Heart Association)
