Job Summary
Purdue University is seeking a collaborative and strategic leader to serve as the next Associate Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning. This is a full-time professional staff leadership position within Teaching and Learning under the Office of the Provost. This exciting leadership opportunity sits within the Office of the Provost and plays a critical role in advancing Purdue University's commitment to student success, academic coordination, and excellence in undergraduate education at one of the nation's leading public research universities.
The Associate Vice Provost serves in a collaborative leadership role supporting efforts to strengthen the undergraduate student experience from transition through degree completion. Working closely with campus partners, this position helps coordinate and advance initiatives related to academic policy implementation, student success, advising infrastructure, curricular coordination, and cross-campus partnerships that support undergraduate learning and progression.
Working closely with academic colleges, Enrollment Management, Student Life, Purdue Online, faculty governance groups, and university leadership, the Associate Vice Provost will help coordinate and advance cross-functional initiatives that strengthen advising effectiveness, improve academic pathways, support student progression, and enhance operational alignment across the undergraduate ecosystem. The successful candidate will bring the ability to build strong partnerships, navigate complex institutional environments, and translate strategic priorities into meaningful and measurable impact for students and the broader university community.
The Associate Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning is a two-year appointment with the potential for extension based on organizational priorities and performance.
The Associate Vice Provost will provide leadership across designated functional areas within the portfolio, based on institutional priorities and evolving organizational needs. Key areas of leadership and oversight may include:
  • Support and coordinate undergraduate education initiatives related to academic policy, curriculum alignment, advising effectiveness, and student success priorities across the university.
  • Lead cross-functional collaborations involving academic colleges, Enrollment Management, Student Life, Purdue Online, and other campus partners to advance institutional priorities related to student retention, progression, advising effectiveness, and timely degree completion.
  • Support and coordinate university governance and curricular processes, including academic policy implementation, curriculum review, program approvals, and institutional committee work.
  • Oversee components of Purdue's advising and student success infrastructure, including advising strategy, student success technologies, data-informed initiatives, and policy alignment.
  • Provide administrative leadership for selected Teaching and Learning units and student support programs focused on undergraduate transition, progression, and academic success.
  • Represent Teaching and Learning on institutional committees, strategic initiatives, and cross-campus partnerships that support undergraduate education and student achievement.

Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. or terminal degree from an accredited institution in a relevant discipline.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in higher education
  • Demonstrated experience advancing initiatives related to student success, advising, curriculum coordination, academic policy, or institutional effectiveness
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives involving multiple academic and administrative stakeholders
  • Experience working within shared governance environments and supporting institution-level academic decision-making
  • Strong organizational, communication, collaboration, and strategic leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working within a Provost's Office or equivalent academic affairs leadership structure
  • Experience supporting curriculum governance, academic policy development, or academic program approval processes
  • Experience overseeing advising strategy, student success initiatives, or student success technologies
  • Experience supervising directors, centers, or multi-unit operational portfolios
  • Experience leading institution-wide undergraduate education initiatives and collaborating across multiple academic colleges or administrative units
