Description

Role summary

This position is ideal for senior-level tax professionals to join the Global Corporate Tax team as Director, International Tax, reporting to the Senior Director of Tax Operations. In this role, you will lead Align Technology’s international tax function including compliance, reporting, transfer pricing, planning, and controversy. Partnering with cross-functional teams including Finance, Legal, and Operations, you will provide strategic tax insights to support global business objectives and optimize tax outcomes. This role is critical in shaping Align Technology’s global tax strategy, managing tax risk, and supporting continued international growth as we advance an AI-first, data-driven tax function.

Role expectations
  • Lead US international and foreign tax planning, compliance, and reporting processes.
  • Manage global transfer pricing policies, documentation, and country-by-country reporting requirements.
  • Oversee international components of US GAAP tax provision including Subpart F, NCTI, BEAT, FDII, foreign tax credits, and FIN 48 reserves.
  • Partner cross-functionally to support tax-efficient structuring of business operations, expansion, and strategic initiatives.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and assess impact on business operations and tax strategy.
  • Manage international tax audits in partnership with internal accounting teams and external advisors to support controversy matters.
  • Support M&A activities including IP/tax structuring considerations and operational integration.
  • Drive process improvements and standardization across international tax processes to enhance efficiency and control environment.
  • Support cash repatriation strategies, entity rationalization, and other global tax initiatives.
  • Identify processes within the tax function that could benefit from AI or automation and lead initiatives to improve efficiency and scalability.
  • Leverage data and digital tools to simplify complex tax analyses, enhance decision-making, and improve reporting quality.
  • Promote an AI-first mindset by rethinking how work gets done, focusing on innovation, agility, and continuous improvement.
What we’re looking for
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MST preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 12 years of international tax experience in a multinational environment; Big 4 and in-house experience preferred.
  • Skills: Strong technical expertise in US international tax and global tax regimes, with ability to model tax impacts of transactions.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with ability to influence stakeholders across functions and geographies.
  • Teamwork: Proven ability to lead and collaborate effectively across global teams in a fast-paced environment.
  • Mindset: Demonstrated curiosity, learning agility, and willingness to adopt new technologies and ways of working.
  • Thinking: Ability to connect technology initiatives (including AI) to measurable business outcomes and improved processes.
Complementary skills
  • Experience using AI tools, data analytics, or automation in finance or tax environments.
  • Track record of simplifying complex processes using technology or data insights.
