Job Description

TITLE: DIRECTOR OF TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION DRAFT - PRELIMINARY COPY

DEPARTMENT: Technology

Qualifications
  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field preferred or equivalent experience in administration of a comprehensive Information Systems Technology department.
  • Possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card within forty-five (45) days of employment.
  • Possess a valid Arizona Driverโ€™s License.
  • Minimum of ten years experience, and extensive knowledge of network and systems infrastructure, computers, operating systems, servers, applications, topology and other computer related network peripherals, within an enterprise or education institutional environment.
  • Minimum of ten years experience & extensive knowledge of change management, educational and innovative technologies, technology integration, curriculum, instruction and pedagogy.
  • Cisco, Microsoft, and/or Google certified and/or VMWare certifications preferred.
  • Experience in instructional design, particularly in a digital environment, and documentation.
  • Experience designing engineered technical processes & documentation.
  • Minimum of ten years experience as a manager/supervisor in an educational IT organization.
  • Demonstrated expertise for strategic and tactical process management.
  • Troubleshooting skills at the highest level.
  • Any combination of training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Job Goal

The Director of Technology and Innovation (DTI) manages resources within the Technology department in supporting district objectives, and is responsible for the overall planning, organization, execution and support of all educational technology, innovation, and strategic functions within the District.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Complies with all HIPAA and FERPA related confidentiality requirements.
  • Develops positive relations students, parents, school staff and the public.
  • Create and maintain a customer-centered service and support, and lead the effort for continuous improvement in this area.
  • Foster good morale, team spirit, and dedication to the goals of the ITS strategic plan among staff members.
  • Develop, enhance and manage highly effective, reliable, and secure infrastructure and systems to support student achievement, instructional and administrative functions.
  • Promote and support the utilization of technology and information systems to create business and instructional efficiencies and make data based decisions.
  • Design and support collaborative and communicative learning and work environments.
  • Promote and facilitate the effective integration of technology to create an educational environment where students and staff have ubiquitous access to relevant and innovative technologies for teaching and learning.
  • Work collaboratively to develop a District Technology Plan that aligns with the PUSD Strategic Plan.
  • Perform E-rate application process.
  • Responsible for all technology purchases, utilizing procurement guidelines.
  • Lead the development and deployment of systems to measure and assess ITS performance and productivity.
  • Manage ITS' budget, hiring, contracts, and partnerships.
  • Design, maintain and execute a fair and effective staff performance evaluation process.
  • Support the Network & Systems Administrator and staff of Technology Infrastructure, Systems and Support Teams the execution of its goals and strategies.
  • Support the ITS Communications Team in developing and managing its marketing and communications goals and strategies.
  • Support the SIS Team in the execution of its goals and strategies.
  • Support the EdTech Team in designing, creating and executing valuable learning experiences for faculty and staff they support efficient work and robust teaching and learning experiences.
  • Provide training and direction to IT staff. Evaluate as required.
  • Supervise the development of support documentation.
  • Participate in weekly administrative meetings.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and enforcement of policies and procedures regarding academic software and hardware, reporting, database access, copyright and license compliance, backups, system security, project plans, and status reports.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Knowledge, Skill and Ability

Knowledge of:

  • District policies, operation and organization.
  • Interpersonal skills including tact, courtesy, and diplomacy.
  • Communication (telephone, email, etc.) etiquette.
  • Knowledge of theories and practices of instructional design and technology is required.
  • Demonstrated competence in developing innovative instructional technology projects is required.
  • History of managing and supervising complex ITS operations within established timelines is required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
  • Arizona Statutes relating to education, preferred.
  • Industry and technology related changes affecting any responsibilities associated with this position.
