We are seeking to a results oriented and strategic Manager, Clinical informatics to lead a diverse team and provide strategic and operational leadership to support Mackenzie Health's largest digital asset - the Epic EMR (Electronic Medical Record). This role will provide leadership to ensure adoption and optimization of the system that aligns with the organizational strategic priorities to deliver patient quality and safety.

The Manager will oversee the design, build, implementation and continuous improvement of the system to meet the needs of the clinical, non-clinical end users and the broader health system to ensure successful large scale implementations. They will be collaborating with clinical leaders and subject matter experts to support decision-making, education, ongoing evaluation, maintenance and upgrading clinical systems and technologies used throughout the organization.

Contribute to safe, quality care by:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of application analysts by establishing clear priorities, performance expectations and professional development pathways while fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation and service excellence
  • Translate organizational strategy into actionable digital health initiatives and system configuration and enhancements
  • Responsible for managing the support, maintenance, and installation of all clinical applications. This includes coordinating changes and additions to all clinical systems to ensure a cohesive, integrated EMR
  • Partner with clinical and operational leaders to identify opportunities for workflow and system improvements
  • Ensuring that information is available to, and appropriately used by, clinicians, managers, and directors to enhance clinical care and patient health outcomes.
  • Manages daily operations of the Clinical informatics department including ensuring SLAs for applications are met, resources are scheduled (as required), and after-hours support processes are in place.
  • Provides recommendations and guidance to stakeholders regarding streamlining workflows and best practices within the opportunities and limitations of information technology capabilities and standards.
  • Collaborates with hospital staff to ensure the achievement of strategic goals as they relate to decision-making, education, implementation, ongoing evaluation, maintenance and upgrading of technologies and clinical information systems used throughout the hospital.
  • Monitor and maintain overall Epic system design and configuration for Mackenzie Health and Connect partners, ensuring efficient and effective solutions
  • Responsible for hiring, managing and coaching team members and supporting all issues to do with personnel under the portfolio.
  • Provides leadership, guidance and support for major systems software and hardware, integrates research into practice and uses critical thinking and problem-solving skills to guide evidence-based decisions in advocating for positive patient outcomes.
  • Translates the strategy plan into operations and ensures progress through milestones and metrics.
  • Coordinates and prioritizes operations including continuous service in the event of service outages and/or business recovery.
  • Coordinates, manages, and leads the team delivering innovative solutions through various internal and external projects.
  • Builds on the existing customer service systems and develop a proactive culture which anticipates customer needs and priorities, and then deploys resources accordingly.
  • Acts as an expert resource for management, clinicians, and specialists.

What must you have?

  • Baccalaureate level degree in a Health Discipline and/or Informatics, healthcare administration or other related field required

What else do you bring?

  • Experience with Epic EMR system strongly preferred

  • Minimum 5 years progressive leadership experience in an acute healthcare setting preferred

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in carrying out own position responsibilities, tasks and activities, including all phases of documentation, interactions with vendors, users, co-workers, and management staff. Provide an appropriate and timely level of information to each as required

  • Must have a thorough understanding of the use of Information Technology in a clinical setting

  • Demonstrated initiative, excellent organization and time management skills with a high degree of accuracy and ability to handle a complexity of tasks simultaneously

  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment

  • Professional and customer service oriented with an ability to work with individuals across all levels of the organization

  • Must have ability to manage multiple projects and task at various stages of development

  • Able to work in a multisite model and be able to travel between two locations.

  • Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.

Preferably, your profile also includes:

  • Master's degree in Health Informatics, Health Administration, Business Administration or equivalent is an asset

  • Diploma or degree in a regulated healthcare profession, an asset; licensure with relevant discipline college/association an asset

  • Project Management (PMP) and/or ITIL Certification an asset
