Direct Care Staff Responsibilities

‍⚕️ Core Responsibilities

Personal Care Assistance

  • Assist with bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and hygiene
  • Support mobility, transfers, and positioning
Medication Support

  • Administer medications per MAR (Medication Administration Record)
  • Monitor for side effects and report discrepancies
Daily Living Support

  • Prepare meals and assist with feeding
  • Perform housekeeping and maintain a sanitary environment
  • Manage laundry and organize personal belongings
Health Monitoring

  • Track vital signs and observe health conditions
  • Report changes in behavior, health, or mood
  • Document incidents and concerns accurately
Service Documentation

  • Maintain Service Delivery Logs
  • Complete progress notes and data collection forms
  • Ensure compliance with HHSC documentation standards
Safety & Emergency Preparedness

  • Participate in fire drills and emergency training
  • Follow universal precautions and infection control protocols
  • Monitor water temperature logs for safety
Community Integration

  • Transport clients to appointments, church, or community events
  • Support clients in social and recreational activities
  • Encourage exercise and engagement in hobbies
Behavioral Support

  • Redirect clients during behavioral episodes

Qualifications & Training Requirements

  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Completion of background check, TB test, and physical exam
  • CPR and First Aid certification within 30 days of hire
  • Orientation on service plans, emergency procedures, and client-specific needs
