Job description

Nurse Manager

The Nurse Manager provides leadership and operational oversight for the Employee Health and Infection Control Department, as well as nurse management for OB, Specialties, Winthrop Primary Care, and Project Shine. The Nurse Manager will ensure safe staffing and patient flow, interdepartmental collaboration, supervise clinical workflows, and oversee and develop staff. The Nurse Manager reports to the Director of Nursing and collaborates with the Administrative Director to ensure all compliance, regulatory goals, and workflows follow best practices.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide direct supervision of nurses and medical assistants in assigned departments (OB, Specialties, Winthrop Primary Care, Project Shine).
  • Oversee Employee Health and Infection Control programs, ensuring compliance with CDC, OSHA, MA DPH, and Joint Commission requirements.
  • Collaborate with medical and administrative directors to optimize patient flow, clinical workflows, and staffing models.
  • Conduct annual performance reviews, competencies, and professional development plans for nursing staff.
  • Ensure adequate staffing coverage and manage nursing schedules.
  • Represent nursing functions in health center and departmental meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and manages workflows for maximum efficiency
  • Daily management of department staff
  • Assists with customer service recovery as appropriate
  • Monitor compliance with Employee Health policies, including immunizations, TB screening, and staff health records.
  • Administer and document vaccines, TB tests, and fit-testing as required.
  • Manage employee exposures (e.g., bloodborne pathogens, airborne diseases) with timely follow-up and reporting.
  • Conduct Infection Control training for all staff and department-specific competencies.
  • Oversee sterilization and high-level disinfection monitoring, including QC documentation, staff training, and audits.
  • Perform infection control rounds, inspections, and log reviews (autoclave, negative pressure rooms, vaccine refrigerators, etc.).
  • Serve as liaison to contracted Occupational Health providers and staffing agencies.
  • Lead the Infection Control Committee, including developing agendas, coordinating meetings, preparing and delivering presentations, and ensuring follow-up on action items.
  • Ensure adherence to Joint Commission, DPH, HRSA, and organizational standards.
  • Support patient safety, quality improvement, and risk reduction initiatives.
  • Collaborate with IT/Data teams to track performance metrics and outcomes.
  • Promote customer service excellence through ACE model standards.
  • Assist with policy development, wellness initiatives, and incident review.

Job Components

  • Full-time oversight of EH/IC department administrative and clinical services.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies including Joint Commission and DPH.
  • Ensures annual clinical skills compliance of nurses are completed.
  • Responsible for the annual reviews of nurses and EH/IC staff.

Miscellaneous

  • Maintain excellent punctuality and attendance.
  • Promote a sense of "teamwork" through demonstration of self-direction and self-motivation. Solve problems independently or know when to seek consultation.
  • Displays outstanding customer service skills when interacting with all NeighborHealth customers according to the ACE model.
  • Adheres to all NeighborHealth and departmental policies and procedures
  • Participate in required departmental activities and meetings.
  • Perform other related duties.

Educational Requirements

  • BSN required

Licensure/Certification

  • Current RN license in Massachusetts.
  • CPR/BCLS certification required.
  • Occupational Health or Infection Control certification preferred.

Experience Requirements

  • Required: Minimum of 3-5 years licensed nursing practice experience in an ambulatory care practice setting.
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant management experience.
  • Prior experience in Employee Health, Infection Control, or Occupational Health strongly preferred.
  • Ability to use data to evaluate outcomes required
  • Working knowledge and experience with electronic medical record systems, performance dashboards, database products, and analysis tools
  • Must have the ability to lead change in an organization and possess excellent interpersonal, communication and teaching skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) required.

Salary: Starting at $109,000 annually, and up to $172,640 annually based on experience.
