Job description

Hungry, Humble, Honest, with Heart.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a visionary leader to define the visual aesthetic of the Nutanix product portfolio and transform the way our Visual Design team operates in the age of AI. As the Visual Design Director, you will hold a high-impact leadership role within the User Experience Design organization. Your mission is to elevate our brand within the product experience, leading the evolution of our comprehensive design system, illustration library, motion design, and overall aesthetic strategy. You and your team will transform complex technical concepts into intuitive, beautiful, and world-class digital experiences that set the industry standard for enterprise software.
About the Team
You will join a global, multidisciplinary design organization that includes Visual Designers, UX Designers, UX Researchers, UX Engineers and more. We are a passionate group of creators dedicated to bringing elegance and simplicity to powerful, technically complex systems. At Nutanix, we make cloud computing simple, and we achieve this through relentless focus on the user and a commitment to delivering high quality, consumer-grade design.
In this role, you will report to the Senior Director of Design, a leader who values a strong design acumen, people centric leadership, and effective cross functional collaboration. Our team operates with a strong bias for action, valuing "doing" over "saying," and we pride ourselves on driving ambitious projects to closure.
Your Role
  • Build and scale a high-performing, inclusive, and diverse visual design team that spans across multiple geographies.
  • Reimagine our visual design practice with the latest AI technologies and tooling.
  • Deliver a scalable and accessible design system in close partnership with engineering.
  • Craft and execute a long-term vision for the Visual Design function that aligns with business objectives.
  • Drive a compelling visual vision that brings clarity, usability, and competitive differentiation to Nutanix products.
  • Lead and inspire a multidisciplinary team (visual, illustration, motion) to reach new heights of creativity.
  • Advocate for the value of visual design at all levels of the organization.
  • Apply up-to-date knowledge of current design trends and emerging technologies to keep Nutanix at the forefront of the industry.
  • Engage meaningfully with engineering teams on implementation feasibility within a highly technical environment.
  • Elevate design quality across the Nutanix product portfolio.
  • Partner with Marketing to ensure a seamless "one-brand" experience.
  • Establish a strong team identity and culture that attracts top-tier talent.
  • Mentor and develop designers to succeed in enterprise environments, fostering both technical proficiency and soft skills.
  • Exhibit a high "say vs. do" ratio; removing roadblocks and resolving cross-functional dependencies to drive projects to conclusion.

What You Will Bring
  • Design Expertise: A strong design sensibility with a professional background in Visual Design, Graphic Design, or a related creative field.
  • Proven Leadership: Extensive experience leading, managing and scaling teams of creative professionals in a fast-paced environment.
  • Mastery of UI design, typography, color theory, layout, hierarchy, etc.
  • Deep experience producing, managing, and scaling enterprise-grade design systems.
  • An obsession with detail and a passion for high-fidelity execution.
  • A mature leadership style with the ability to drive alignment across diverse engineering, product, and executive stakeholders.
  • Inclusivity: Strong experience with web accessibility (WCAG) and inclusive design principles.
  • Enterprise Experience: Familiarity with cloud computing or similarly complex technical domains is a significant plus.
