Job description

Position Summary The Assistant Director of Transportation serves as a key leader in the district's operational infrastructure. This role is responsible for assisting the Director in managing the logistical, personnel, and safety requirements of a large-scale student transportation fleet. The primary goal is to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely transportation of students while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Key Responsibilities 1.

Operations & Logistics Management * Oversee daily dispatching operations to ensure 100% route coverage and minimal service disruptions. * Utilize advanced routing software to analyze and optimize routes for regular and special education services. * Manage the integration of technology, including GPS tracking and parent notification platforms. 2. Personnel Leadership & Development * Supervise a large team of bus drivers, monitors, mechanics, and administrative support staff. * Assist in the recruitment, interview, and onboarding process to maintain full staffing levels. * Coordinate ongoing professional development and safety training programs for all staff. * Assist with customer service support, including handling questions or concerns. 3. Safety & Regulatory Compliance * Ensure strict adherence to DOT, state, and local safety regulations and drug/alcohol testing programs. * Lead accident investigations, determine preventability, and implement corrective action plans. * Oversee the district's driver certification program and maintenance of training records. 4.

Fleet & Financial Management * Collaborate with the Shop Head Mechanic to oversee preventative maintenance and life-cycle replacement of vehicles. * Assist in the development and monitoring of the department's annual multi-million dollar budget. * Assist with fuel procurement, parts inventory, and vendor relationships. Qualifications & Requirements Education: Bachelor's Degree preferred. Experience: Minimum 5 years in transportation/logistics with 3+ years in a supervisory role. Licensure: Must hold or be able to obtain a Class B CDL with Passenger (P) and School (S) endorsements. Working Conditions * Requires early morning availability and occasional evening/weekend duties for emergencies or events. * Environment includes office settings, mechanical shops, and outdoor field supervision in varying weather.
