Geotechnical Engineer

S&ME is looking for a qualified and driven licensed Geotechnical Engineer to support our Geotechnical team in Nashville, TN. Join us at S&ME!

Whether you see yourself serving as a senior technical resource-overseeing challenging geotechnical projects while guiding and developing junior team members-or taking on a leadership position focused on directing the department and expanding our geotechnical footprint statewide, there is opportunity to build the role around the path that fits you best. In either capacity, you will have a meaningful impact on the continued growth and long-term direction of our geotechnical practice in Nashville.


Your Day-to-Day:

Based on your career track, your role may involve the following responsibilities:

  • Project Delivery: Lead geotechnical assignments through all phases, from initial scoping and planning to final completion, while ensuring performance expectations for quality, timelines, and budgets are achieved.
  • Technical Leadership: Serve as a subject matter resource in areas such as subsurface investigations, foundation systems, slope evaluations, ground modification techniques, and other geotechnical engineering assessments.
  • Design & Documentation: Prepare and review geotechnical engineering reports, fee proposals, technical computations, and engineering recommendations to support project needs.
  • Client & Team Coordination: Foster strong working relationships with clients, teaming consultants, contractors, and internal multidisciplinary teams to support successful project execution.
  • Staff Development: Provide guidance, mentorship, and day-to-day support to developing engineers, technicians, and field personnel.
  • Practice Development: Contribute to business growth initiatives, client pursuits, and long-range planning efforts that advance the geotechnical service line.

What You Bring:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil, Geotechnical, Mining, or a related engineering field.
  • 4+ years of related geotechnical engineering experience, which preferably includes some extent of project management responsibilities.
  • You have a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Tennessee or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • A positive attitude that thrives in a collaborative, hands-on environment
