Job description

Position Overview

The Geotechnical Section Supervisor is principally responsible for assigning, scheduling, and completion of work, writing laboratory reports, review of data generated by the geotechnical lab, direct supervision and training of technicians assigned to the geotechnical lab, and performing hands on testing.

Key Responsibilities

• Performs daily testing in the geotechnical lab,

• Project management with an emphasis on soil related projects including USACE, FAA, DOT, etc.

• Familiarity with ASTM, AASHTO, and DOT test methodology related to soil,

• Direct supervision of geotechnical laboratory personnel,

• Training and review of technicians in the geotechnical laboratory,

• Assign and oversee work scheduling and completion,

• Project initiation and coordination with customers,

• Review of data generated by geotechnical laboratory,

• Writing laboratory reports,

• Responsible for equipment calibration within assigned intervals for geotechnical laboratory

• Familiarity of the company’s QA-020 quality management system (QMS) requirements and documentation and implement the QMS policies and procedures

• Other duties as directed by the Laboratory Manager


Education and Experience

• Technical or Bachelor’s Degree in science or engineering or equivalent experience

• Minimum of 3 year's experience performing tests on soil & rock

• Engineering or scientific experience related to geotechnical testing is preferred

• Experience in supervising technicians, and knowledge of technical matters including testing methods and test

equipment, computer skills and technical writing skills.

• Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meeting deadlines

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Leadership skills

• Laboratory Manager

• Laboratory Technical Director

• Subordinates in geotechnical testing laboratory

• Internal and External clients


Physical Requirements

Physical Ability

• Stand, walk, push, pull, twist, reach overhead, bending, crawling, climbing; lift minimum of 80 pounds

Visual Ability

• Visual accommodation necessary for reading instructions/materials necessary to perform functions of job

Hearing Ability

• Ability to monitor sounds for changes in machine function

Work Conditions

• Work exposes the employee to laboratory testing devices, dust, soil and other external environment factors
