Director Game Localization information

What does a director of game localization do?

A Director of Game Localization oversees the entire process of adapting video games for different languages and cultures. This includes managing translation teams, coordinating with developers, ensuring cultural relevance, and maintaining the original game's tone and intent. They are responsible for meeting deadlines, maintaining high quality standards, and ensuring the localized version provides a seamless experience for players worldwide. Their role is crucial in expanding a game's reach and success in international markets.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a director of game localization?

To excel as a Director of Game Localization, you need expertise in localization strategy, project management, and fluency in multiple languages, usually supported by a degree in linguistics or a related field. Familiarity with localization management tools (such as CAT tools, translation management systems), QA platforms, and content adaptation software is essential. Strong leadership, cross-cultural communication, and problem-solving abilities set top candidates apart in this role. These skills ensure that games are accurately and culturally adapted for global markets, driving player engagement and commercial success.

What are some typical challenges a director of game localization faces when managing international release timelines?

A Director of Game Localization often navigates tight release schedules that require coordination across multiple regions and languages. They must ensure that translations maintain the game's original tone and intent while also complying with cultural sensitivities and local regulations. Balancing quality, speed, and budget can be challenging, especially when unexpected changes in the source material occur late in development. Collaboration with development, marketing, and QA teams is essential to address technical constraints and ensure a seamless launch across all markets.

WHAT YOU DO AT AMD CHANGES EVERYTHING

At AMD, our mission is to build great products that accelerate next-generation computing experiences-from AI and data centers, to PCs, gaming and embedded systems. Grounded in a culture of innovation and collaboration, we believe real progress comes from bold ideas, human ingenuity and a shared passion to create something extraordinary. When you join AMD, you'll discover the real differentiator is our culture. We push the limits of innovation to solve the world's most important challenges-striving for execution excellence, while being direct, humble, collaborative, and inclusive of diverse perspectives. Join us as we shape the future of AI and beyond. Together, we advance your career.

THE ROLE:

AMD is seeking an AI Creative Technologist to lead the strategic integration and hands-on implementation of artificial intelligence across the global brand and creative organization. This role operates at the intersection of creativity, design, emerging technology, and production-combining visionary creative leadership with deep technical fluency and active experimentation. You will both define the AI roadmap for creative and directly prototype, build, evaluate, and deploy AI-driven solutions across concept development, design execution, content production, and workflow optimization. Working side-by-side with designers, writers, video producers, developers, Brand, Marketing, Digital, IT, Legal, and external agencies, you will validate tools in real production environments and scale solutions that elevate creative quality, accelerate output, and ensure responsible implementation.

THE PERSON:

This role will help shape AMD's AI-enabled creative ecosystem-balancing innovation, governance, measurable business impact, and real-world execution. This role will define and operationalize how AMD responsibly harnesses AI to unlock creative innovation at scale-enhancing storytelling capabilities, accelerating production velocity, increasing operational efficiency, and strengthening competitive differentiation in a rapidly evolving technology landscape. Success will be measured not only by strategic direction, but by deployed workflows, embedded tools, measurable production gains, and creative outputs that demonstrate AI's real-world value.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Define and drive AI strategy across the brand and creative organization, aligning experimentation and implementation with brand, business, and marketing objectives.
  • Champion AI as a core tool for storytelling, concept exploration, campaign development, and production scalability.
  • Identify high-impact opportunities where AI can materially improve speed-to-market, personalization, localization, and content variation at scale.
  • Position AMD as a leader in AI-enabled creativity within the technology industry through both strategic vision and tangible output.
  • Actively prototype and produce AI-generated creative assets including imagery, video, motion graphics, copy variations, concept explorations, and immersive experiences.
  • Build and test proof-of-concept workflows that integrate AI tools directly into existing creative pipelines.
  • Develop scripts, lightweight tools, automations, and API integrations to streamline repetitive tasks and increase production efficiency.
  • Rapidly iterate campaign concepts using AI to accelerate early-stage ideation and visual exploration.
  • Embed within live campaign workstreams to validate AI solutions in real production environments.
  • Research, test, and benchmark emerging AI platforms across image, video, text, audio, and interactive modalities.
  • Evaluate tools for output quality, scalability, integration capability, security, IP considerations, brand safety, and enterprise readiness.
  • Develop structured evaluation frameworks and document findings based on hands-on experimentation.
  • Recommend adoption pathways and collaborate with IT, Legal, Security, and Procurement to ensure compliant and responsible implementation.
  • Establish best practices, prompt frameworks, documentation, and governance guidelines for sustainable AI usage across creative production.
  • Design and implement AI-enabled systems that enhance creative workflows from ideation through final production.
  • Integrate AI APIs into design systems, content platforms, and production environments where applicable.
  • Identify and deploy practical use cases for dynamic creative optimization, personalization, localization automation, and content scaling.
  • Build repeatable templates, toolkits, and playbooks that enable broader team adoption.
  • Mentor and upskill creative teams through workshops, embedded collaboration, and live project support.
  • Translate complex technical capabilities into practical creative applications for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Present pilot results, performance benchmarks, and scaling recommendations to senior leadership with clear articulation of creative, operational, and financial impact.
  • Partner closely with agencies and production partners to integrate AI into global campaign execution.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in creative technology, design innovation, digital production, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience integrating emerging technologies into brand or marketing ecosystems.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with generative AI platforms (e.g., Runway, Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, Sora, Gemini, Nano Banana, Veo, Luma, Kling, ElevenLabs, Higgsfield, etc.) across image, video, and text modalities.
  • Proven experience producing creative outputs using AI-not solely evaluating tools.
  • Proficiency in creative coding (Python, JavaScript, Processing, or similar) and experience working with APIs.
  • Experience building scripts, automations, or lightweight internal tools that improve creative workflows.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Hugging Face) and model customization concepts.
  • Strong understanding of creative production pipelines (design, motion, video, asset management).
  • Ability to balance visionary creative direction with practical execution and operational rigor.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills across creative, technical, legal, and executive stakeholders.
  • Experience within a global technology brand or large enterprise marketing organization.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property, copyright, data security, and brand safety considerations in AI-generated content.
  • Experience with content personalization, localization automation, or dynamic creative optimization.
  • Portfolio that demonstrates AI-driven creative experimentation and production work.
  • Background working with agencies, production partners, and cross-functional global teams.
