Job description
Fellowship Program Director Cardiac Electrophysiology
HonorHealth & Arizona State University John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering
Opening Summer 2026
Scottsdale, Arizona
The future of medicine will not be built by traditional academic models alone.
At HonorHealth and Arizona State University, we are creating a new kind of cardiovascular academic program; one designed for physician leaders who want to shape the next era of electrophysiology, medical education, and healthcare innovation.
HonorHealth, the primary clinical affiliate of the new ASU John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering, is seeking an exceptional academic electrophysiologist to serve as Fellowship Program Director for Cardiac Electrophysiology.
This is a rare opportunity to be a part of a nationally recognized EP training program in collaboration with the countrys most ambitious new medical schools - where medicine, engineering, artificial intelligence, and systems design converge to redefine how care is delivered. The HonorHealth Research Institute established in 2007 and the new Center for Translational science are reshaping the Phoenix metro area medical community and beyond.
Why This Opportunity Is Different
HonorHealth recently opened a dedicated Heart Care Center at Scottsdale Shea Medical Center, designed to become a flagship destination for advanced cardiovascular care in Arizona.
The electrophysiology platform includes:
- A newly built EP laboratory with advanced mapping systems and imaging integration
- Strong procedural volume supported by a large regional referral base
- Multidisciplinary collaboration across cardiovascular subspecialties
- Institutional commitment to growth in complex arrhythmia care, research, and innovation
As Fellowship Program Director, you will help shape the education of future electrophysiologists and physician innovators while building a cutting-edge clinical and research program within a rapidly expanding cardiovascular institute.
This role is designed for a nationally respected electrophysiologist who values:
- Academic leadership with the ability to influence curriculum and fellowship training
- Advanced complex arrhythmia care in a high-growth destination program
- Collaboration with engineers, industry innovators, and AI-focused researchers
- Early participation in next-generation technologies, devices, and clinical trials
- Building programs rather than inheriting legacy structures
Position Highlights
- Lead an ACGME-accredited Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship Program
- Join a physician-led cardiovascular institute with advanced atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia ablation capabilities
- Practice in a newly constructed, state-of-the-art EP laboratory designed for complex procedures and innovation
- Collaborate across a network of more than 70 aligned cardiologists throughout the Phoenix metropolitan area
- Participate in cardiovascular clinical trials, translational research, and device innovation through the HonorHealth Research Institute and HonorHealth Center for Translational Science
- Protected research time available based on academic productivity and funded initiatives
- Ownership opportunities available through OBLASC joint venture participation
- Competitive compensation package including comprehensive benefits, retirement, CME support, and relocation assistance
- Tuition discounts for immediate family members at Arizona State University
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking an intellectually driven academic electrophysiologist with a passion for innovation, education, and program development.
Qualified candidates will possess:
- Board Certification in Cardiovascular Disease and Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology
- Expertise in atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia ablation
- Minimum of three years of core faculty experience within an ACGME-accredited program
- Prior Program Director or Associate Program Director experience preferred
- Interest in advancing the integration of AI, engineering, digital health, and systems thinking into cardiovascular medicine
About HonorHealth & the ASU John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering Partnership
HonorHealth is locally owned and operated non-profit healthcare system with nine hospitals in the Phoenix metro area.
The ASU John Shufeldt School of Medicine and Medical Engineering was built from the ground up to rethink physician training for the future of healthcare.
Together, HonorHealth and ASU will design curriculum which integrates:
- Medicine and engineering
- Artificial intelligence and data science
- Biomedical technology and systems innovation
- Precision medicine and digital health
- Human-centered and interdisciplinary care models
The inaugural ASU tuition-free class begins July 2026 due to generous donations.
Physicians joining HonorHealth today will have the opportunity to help define one of the nations newest and most forward-looking academic medical ecosystems.
