Job description

Description
The Department of History and the Humanities Program at Yale University seek to jointly appoint a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor in the history of medieval Europe with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2027. The teaching expectation is normally four courses academic year. The focus of these courses would be medieval European history, but candidates will also be encouraged to teach more broadly within premodern global or comparative history and expected to teach in the Directed Studies program. Critically, their profile must reflect a strong investment in cross-disciplinary engagement and general education, which will contribute to Yale's Directed Studies program and Humanities major.
Qualifications
The appointee must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree or have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. by June 1, 2027.
Application Instructions
Applicants should submit an application to https://apply.interfolio.com/189916. They should submit a cover letter, CV, teaching statement, research statement, writing sample prepared for anonymous reading (40 pages or fewer), and three letters of reference. Review of applications will begin on September 4, 2026 and will continue until the position is filled. For questions regarding this position, please email Mrs. Denise Scott, Senior Administrative Assistant in the Department of History, at denise.scott@yale.edu.
