Job description

JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE:
Under the direction of the Office Operations Manager the Patient Service Representative provides support with the daily activities which includes greeting patients, providing registration, telephone coverage, appointment scheduling, filing and patient referrals for Recovery Clinic patients in accordance with company policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Greet patients and direct them to appropriate person or destination. Assist clients with special needs as required
  • Answer telephone and either responds to inquiry, directs caller to appropriate personnel, take messages.
  • Provide registration and financial forms to patients and update required demographic information at the front desk.
  • Ensure new patient information is completed.
  • Ensure required demographic information is updated according to protocols.
  • Register patients according to protocols and ensure patient information is accurate.
  • Collects payment from patients and reconcile cash receipts daily.
  • Enter confidential health information, demographics, and financial information into computerized system accurately including correct spelling.
  • Verify, update and enter insurance into billing system not limited to adjust effective date/term date of patient's insurance policy.
  • Schedule appointments according to scheduling protocols and ensure patients receive reminder calls.
  • Obtain pre-certification as required by patients' health care insurers.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality.
  • Provides excellent customer service: treats patients and coworkers with courtesy and discretion.
  • Receives incoming mail, sort and distribute to appropriate person, destination, or file.
  • Notify Recovery Clinic staff upon patient arrival.
  • Assist the doctors with clerical tasks.
  • Attends staff meetings, trainings, and safety education/OSHA requirement sessions.
  • Cross train with other clinic positions as appropriate.
  • Follow and comply with all safety and work rules and regulations. Maintain departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
Education and Experience
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required; college coursework is preferred.
  • Six (6) to twelve (12) months of experience in a fast-paced customer service environment, preferably within a healthcare setting.
  • Previous healthcare registration and insurance verification experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and exceptional customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers, and the public.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience using the Epic electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is strongly preferred.
Work Schedule
  • Monday: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
  • Thursday: 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
  • Friday: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
