What You’ll Do

Job Summary: 

This role leads cross-functional engineering teams responsible for designing, building, and maintaining complex systems software that underpins enterprise technology platforms. This role delivers highquality systems solutions, drives technical execution, and ensures that software capabilities align with business and platform needs. 

Essential Functions:

  • Leads multiple engineering teams in the design, development, and enhancement of systems software, including operating environments, databases, utilities, and foundational platform services. 
  • Oversees requirements analysis, feasibility studies, and solution planning to ensure systems software meets functional, performance, and hardware compatibility expectations. 
  • Establishes technical direction for major software initiatives, guiding architectural choices, coding standards, and systems integration approaches. 
  • Ensures disciplined engineering practices across the full software lifecycle—design, coding, debugging, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance. 
  • Partners with product, infrastructure, and business groups to translate organizational needs into clear technical plans and prioritized backlogs. 
  • Identifies and resolves technical risks, performance issues, and system-level dependencies affecting delivery timelines or platform stability. 
  • Builds capability within the organization by coaching engineering managers, supporting career development, and fostering a strong engineering culture. 
  • Manages team resources, delivery planning, and cross-team coordination to ensure successful execution of projects and platform enhancements. 
  • Promotes continuous improvement through process optimization, tooling improvements, and adoption of modern systems engineering practices. 

What You’ll Need

Education and Experience Requirements:

    • Required Education: Bachelor's degree in field relevant to role (or 4 additional years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree), advanced degree preferred. 
    • Required Experience: 8+ years of relevant experience, 4+ years as a People Leader. 
    • Strong technical foundation in systems programming languages (e.g., C, C++, Rust) and an understanding of operating systems, hardware interaction, or platform services. 
    • Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and guide teams through complex engineering challenges. 
    • Effective leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with experience influencing across organizational boundaries. 
    • Proven record of delivering high-quality systems software through disciplined engineering and operational practices. 
    • Ability to mentor engineering managers and support the growth of technical talent.
