Job description

The Sustainability Data Analyst will be responsible for collecting, compiling, calculating, analyzing, and reporting data related to Materion's global sustainability performance. Areas of focus include greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, energy consumption (electricity, natural gas, fuels), renewable energy, water usage, waste and recycling, pollution, customer/product-footprints, and other key environmental metrics across our operations. This position will also be responsible for continuously improving sustainability data management systems to enhance accuracy, efficiency, transparency, and auditability.

You will have an opportunity to:

  • Facilitate the development of the annual, corporate-wide sustainability inventory in alignment with applicable reporting/compliance standards. Work includes distributing internal data surveys, collecting and compiling site-level data, identifying and resolving data errors and outliers, aggregating data, applying unit conversions and emissions factors, creating summary tables, and developing data visualizations.

  • Manage corporate-wide Energy Metrics data program, including extracting energy data from external/internal databases, manually gathering missing data, compiling energy data and metrics, and disseminating information to operational teams. Work includes tracking savings from energy reduction initiatives by gathering project data from operations teams and assisting with energy savings calculations.

  • Support development of product-level carbon footprint data for key customers consistent with applicable reporting standard(s). Responsibilities will include gathering relevant production and emissions data (or other environmental data) from applicable internal operations/procurement teams and compilation of footprint information consistent with customer requirements. Work may include filing customer-specific forms and establishing long term footprint reduction forecasts.

  • Continuously improve accuracy, efficiency, transparency, and auditability of sustainability database. Work will include assisting with development of long-term strategy to evolve database from existing disparate excel-based data environment to a concisely structured common excel-based environment, then eventually to a sustainability software environment. Other aspects will include establishing clear emissions/conversion factor repository basis documentation, improved calculation formulations, audit trail documentation, improved integration with other existing Materion ERPs. Also review of historical database accuracy and resolution of errors or outliers. Assist with screening of future software platforms, conversion of data into new platform, and then administration of new platform.

  • Miscellaneous sustainability program support including development of charts, analytics or other data for presentations, participation in calls, coordination with consultants, contributing to development of sustainability reports or webpage updates, completion of external customer data surveys, development of internal data surveys, participation in audits, assist with development of climate or other goals, tracking progress versus goals, etc. External (Scope 3) supply chain environmental data gathering will become a growing priority and time requirement in future years.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Engineering Technology, Sustainability, Data Analytics, Financial Analytics, or a related field is preferred. An Associate's degree may be considered with demonstrated equivalent industry experience in sustainability or data analytics.

  • Sustainability or Environmental-emphasis educational experience.

  • 2-5 years of experience in complex data analysis and reporting required.

  • 2-5 years of sustainability data analysis and reporting under industry/regulatory frameworks (GRI, SASB, TCFD, CBAM, GHG Protocol, LCA, PCF, etc) preferred.

  • Advanced proficiency with large sets Microsoft Excel data (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, INDIRECT, INDEX/MATCH, Power Query, formulas, scripts, charts).

  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

  • Ability to learn and apply basic engineering calculations, including energy and mass balances, unit conversions, and use of emissions factors.

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse range of stakeholders, including internal operational teams.

  • Prior experience with sustainability data analytics and reporting preferred.

  • Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau), sustainability data management software, macros/VBA and data management software preferred.
