Job description

Overview:
Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Customer Support Engineer with strong expertise in Power Systems Applications (PSA), Transmission EMS, and SCADA systems to support our Reliance (XA/21) platform. The role involves advanced software development, system integration, and real-time support for mission-critical environments, working directly with Electric Utilities, ISOs (Independent System Operators), and TSOs (Transmission System Operators).
The engineer will be responsible for design, coding, testing, tuning, troubleshooting, and delivering customized EMS/SCADA solutions with a strong focus on customer support and reliability.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and deliver Power Systems Application software for EMS/SCADA projects.
  • Collaborate with Electric Utilities, ISOs, and TSOs to define functional software specifications.
  • Customize and implement Reliance (formerly XA/21) EMS/SCADA or equivalent platforms (Siemens, OSI, ABB, Schneider, etc.).
  • Perform data modeling, system configuration, integration, and application tuning.
  • Provide customer support for mission-critical real-time systems, including live system fixes.
  • Manage system upgrades, patch installations, and third-party software integrations (Oracle, NetApp, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain C, Java, and Oracle-based applications.
  • Perform SQL scripting, shell scripting, log analysis, and debugging for issue resolution.
  • Maintain version control and configuration using GitHub and ClearCase.
  • Conduct troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem resolution in a timely manner.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, test cases, and reports.
  • Support testing activities, including automated test environments and test management tools.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams, vendors, and customers.
Essential Skills
  • Proficiency in Electric Transmission EMS / SCADA implementations.
  • Hands-on experience with GE Reliance (XA/21) EMS/SCADA or equivalent vendor SCADA.
  • Strong knowledge of Electric SCADA applications, Power DMS, and Transmission Management Systems (TMS).
  • Experience in Network/Transmission Application development and customization (preferably Reliance).
  • Operating Systems: 5+ years with Linux and Windows.
  • Programming & Databases: 5+ years with C, Java, Oracle Database, SQL, PL/SQL.
  • System Skills: Shell scripting, OS patching, debugging logs/files, installation of third-party software.
  • Version Control: Hands-on with GitHub, ClearCase.
  • Mission Critical Systems: 5+ years experience with real-time systems.
  • Proven track record of live customer system fixes with minimal downtime.
  • Strong troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Competency in MS Office Suite and Outlook.
Desirable Skills
  • Knowledge of Reliance grid apps domain.
  • Familiarity with Object-Oriented programming techniques.
  • Experience in system administration.
  • Exposure to automated testing frameworks and test management tools.
