Director of Engineering, Embedded Software
The Director of Engineering, Embedded Software, will be a critical leader within our organization, responsible for the technical vision, strategic goals, and operational excellence of our embedded software development teams. This role requires a proven leader with deep expertise in embedded systems, a strong background in medical device development, and a comprehensive understanding of the regulatory landscape (e.g., IEC 62304). You will manage a team of talented embedded software engineers, oversee multiple client projects simultaneously, and serve as a key technical point of contact for our clients.ย

ยทย Technical Leadership and Strategy:
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Collaborate directly with clients to define and execute the technical strategy for embedded software development projects, ensuring alignment with company goals and client needs.
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Provide hands-on technical guidance and architectural oversight for complex embedded software projects.
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in embedded systems, medical device development, and cybersecurity.

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Project and Client Management
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Oversee the end-to-end software development lifecycle for multiple projects, from requirements definition through verification and validation.
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Collaborate with Technical Project Managers to ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope.
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Ensure all embedded software development activities comply with medical device regulations and standards (e.g., IEC 62304, ISO 13485), including software requirements specifications, software architecture and design documents, and risk management and cybersecurity plans and assessments (including FMEAs).
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Collaborate with Business Development staff to introduce prospective customers to the companyโs capabilities and expertise and to develop technical proposals for new client work.

KEY SKILLS:

ยทย 10+ years recent experience with modern embedded C++
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Experience developing medical devices or other safety critical systems
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Strong hands-on experience with embedded development on Linux, Windows, an RTOS, or bare metal
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Strong experience with modern SDLC processes (unit testing, static analysis, CI/CD)

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Proven expertise in C/C++ programming for embedded systems
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Deep understanding of real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded Linux
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย Demonstrated experience with hardware-software integration, including low-level driver development and debugging
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย In-depth knowledge of medical device regulations and standards, especially IEC 62304
