Job description

The Carpenter position is to accomplish specific carpentry-related construction tasks (i.e., concrete forming, framing, trim carpentry, drywall partitions construction, etc). The role of a carpenter includes blueprint reading, layout, developing lists of materials, record keeping, and coordination with other trades to the extent necessary, and hands-on work.

Scope of Carpenter Position

Perform all duties associated with required carpentry work, working with other members of the construction crew to successfully complete projects within specifications and in a quality manner to meet or exceed customer expectations. Position report to Carpenter Foreman or Superintendent.

Essential Functions of the Carpenter Position

Must be physically fit to perform manual labor in all types of environments and conditions, including heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.). Regularly required to stand, must be able to use hands to fingers, handle or feel and verbally communicate and listen. Other physical requirements include sitting, walking, climbing or balancing and stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.


Responsibilities

  • Blueprint reading, layout, and planning of the day-to-day work to perform specific carpentry-related assignments;
  • Performing standards of workmanship that meet the project's requirements, that are consistent with industry best-practice;
  • Working with the crew to accomplish the task, including assisting with the teaching and mentoring of individuals in the crew who are less experienced;
  • Maintaining tools, cords, and equipment so that they are kept in good working order and are safe for use;
  • Maintaining the work area(s) in a clean and orderly manner on a continuous basis.
  • Coordinating the work with the project superintendent, carpenter foreman, subcontractors, and others that are involved in the process;
  • Creating lists of materials, supplies, specialty tools, and equipment (proactively) that are needed to perform the work;
  • Consistently reporting for work on time and in appropriate attire;
  • Participating in training and other forms of development to strengthen technical, safety, and supervisory skills.


Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of direct experience and a solid working knowledge of the specific work that is being constructed (i.e., concrete formwork, drywall framing and hanging, etc.);
  • The ability to read blueprints and specifications; to create material lists and to fill out time cards and other minor record-keeping tasks;
  • Interpersonal competencies that include a drive for results, the need for closure, effective oral communication skills, organization, planning, trust, respect, and being dependable and cooperative.
  • Must be able to lift and handle 50-pound objects;
  • Must be fully mobile and capable of walking job sites, climbing ladders and stairs multiple times daily to inspect work, direct subcontractors and TMG's own field forces, and assure safety and quality control;
  • Must have a clean driving record to facilitate getting materials from suppliers when necessary.
  • OSHA safety training and a current First Aid and CPR certificate; and
  • Ownership of all hand tools that are required to perform any of the tasks contemplated. (TMG provides all power tools - except battery-powered screw guns and equipment).
  • Must be able to be issued a badge to work at the project sites that have this requirement; and
  • Current and valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required
