Job description

Job Description BAS Controls Technician Overview We are seeking an experienced BAS Controls Technician to support the installation, programming, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Building Automation Systems (BAS) within commercial construction environments. This role requires strong technical expertise, the ability to manage projects from startup through closeout, and experience working directly with customers, contractors, and project teams. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with commercial BAS projects, strong knowledge of DDC systems, and experience with Distech controls.

Key Responsibilities Install, program, commission, troubleshoot, and service Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Direct Digital Controls (DDC). Configure controllers, create control sequences, and modify control algorithms as required. Download and manage controller software, databases, and graphical user interfaces.

Diagnose and resolve complex control system, networking, and mechanical system issues. Coordinate with customers, general contractors, mechanical contractors, and subcontractors throughout project execution. Communicate project schedules, milestones, commissioning activities, and closeout requirements.

Track labor and material usage while supporting project budget adherence. Manage subcontractors and suppliers to ensure project schedules are maintained. Identify scope changes and support change order development and documentation.

Perform system testing, startup, commissioning, and owner training. Complete project closeout documentation and turnover activities. Provide ongoing technical support to customers and internal teams.

Required Qualifications Minimum 2+ years of experience working with commercial Building Automation Systems. Hands-on experience with Distech Controls (required). Experience with BACnet and/or LonWorks control systems.

Ability to independently execute BAS projects from installation through commissioning and closeout. Strong understanding of commercial HVAC control systems. Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, control drawings, and construction documents.

General understanding of IP networking and network-based control systems. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Ability to pass background screening requirements. Preferred Qualifications Experience in healthcare, laboratory, pharmaceutical, mission-critical, or other complex commercial facilities. Experience with Niagara 4 / Tridium platforms.

Familiarity with Siemens Talon systems. Trade school, technical certification, military technical training, or Associate's degree in HVAC Controls, Electronics, Mechanical Systems, or related field. BAS certifications related to Niagara, Tridium, Distech, or other major control platforms.

What Makes a Strong Candidate Commercial construction project experience (residential experience is not transferable). Demonstrated success delivering projects from startup through completion. Experience working within fast-paced construction schedules and deadline-driven environments.

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities. Stable work history with progressive technical growth. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with project teams and customers.
