The State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio) is seeking a Database Administration Specialist or Database Systems Administration AI Specialist to join the Information Technology Services/Engagement & Operations team.

General Summary (Grade 13 & Grade 13 AI):
Under the direction of the supervisor, Systems and Database Services, ensure access to State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio (STRS Ohio) data by maintaining the availability, performance and integrity of databases, Windows and UNIX operating systems, design and implement departmental standards and procedures and leverage artificial intelligence tools and platforms to enhance database administration, automation and operational efficiency.
Summary of Responsibilities (Grade 13 & Grade 13 AI):
  • Proactively research and establish installation, upgrade and maintenance procedures for supported database systems.
  • Research, design and develop security schemes for supported database systems.
  • Execute database backup and recovery.
  • Develop, test and implement database maintenance jobs.
  • Develop methods and procedures for monitoring databases and systems to pinpoint and resolve database and system problems.
  • Leverage AI-assisted tools such as Microsoft Copilot, Claude and Claude Code to accelerate database administration tasks including code generation, troubleshooting and documentation. (Grade 13 AI Only)
  • Design, build and deploy AI agents using Microsoft Copilot Studio for departmental and enterprise use cases. - (Grade 13 AI Only)
  • Stay current with emerging AI technologies and evaluate their applicability to database systems administration, design, and performance optimization. - (Grade 13 AI Only)
  • Apply preventative database and system maintenance patches.
  • Provide after-hours (24/7) on-call support, including weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.

Summary of Qualifications (Grade 13 & Grade 13 AI:
  • Associate degree in a related field required.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Seven or more years' experience in database systems administration preferred.
  • Superior knowledge of the following required:
    • SQL Server 2019, DB2 LUW 11.1, Oracle WebLogic 14 or later versions
    • Oracle 19c or later
    • database concepts and design
    • database system capacity planning, auditing and performance tuning
  • Superior understanding of database utilities, maintenance, performance and tuning and recovery required.
  • Thorough understanding of Windows and UNIX scripting, Python, TSQL, and PL/SQL required.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools including Microsoft Copilot, Claude, Claude Code and Copilot Studio required. - Grade 13 AI Only)
  • Familiarity with AI agent creation, deployment and lifecycle management for departmental and enterprise environments preferred. - Grade 13 AI Only)
  • Understanding of prompt engineering required. - Grade 13 AI Only)
  • Superior organizational skills and high degree of accuracy and attention to detail required.
