Job Summary:

The Data Governance & Controls Director will support the Office of the Chief Data Officer (OCDO) in defining, maintaining and executing the Data Management Integrated Control Framework (DMICF) across the enterprise.  The DMICF details data and reporting control minimum standards across the Production, Aggregation and Consumption Layers of our Enterprise Data Management Architecture (EDMA) and was developed to enhance/improve data quality with heightened standards and ultimately mitigate against a definitive set of data risks.  In aggregate, the framework represents standards of care (i.e., requirements) with controls working in synergy to ensure reliable, quality, timely and fit-for-purpose data.  The Director will coordinate the definition of requirements, communication, training, tooling and executing the DMICF with the respective Report Content Owners, Report Production Owners, Independent Subject Matter Experts, Data Officers, etc. across each MUFG Line of Business and Function.   The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of experience in data governance, data quality, data management, or related fields.

Responsibilities

  • Define, maintain and ensure implementation of the Data Management Integrated Control Framework (DMICF) for Tier 1 Risk & Regulatory Reports and Target Scope Areas for MUFG Data Risk Management.

  • Ensure implementation of the DMICF Consumption Layer Controls for Tier 1 Risk & Regulatory Reports and Target Scope Areas for MUFG Data Risk Management.

  • Golden Source, Calculator, Model Identification & Certification for Tier 1 Risk & Regulatory Reports and Target Scope Areas for MUFG Data Risk Management.

  • Build new Key Data Element (KDE) Data Integrity Testing and ensure the implementation of Comprehensiveness Controls and other DMICF Aggregation Layer Controls

  • Execute and maintain KDE Integrity Testing in production

  • Perform sample-based data tracing on Priority Level 1 Priority KDEs for Tier 1 Risk & Regulatory Reports and Prioritized Financial Crimes Processes to confirm data accuracy.

  • Ensure implementation of the DMICF Production Layer Controls for Tier 1 Risk & Regulatory Reports and Target Scope Areas for MUFG Data Risk Management.

  • Execute and maintain KDE Data Accuracy Validation w/ Line of Business Data Custodians in production

  • Provide governance, oversight and monitoring dispositioning of Data Quality Incidents.

  • Ensure material and persistent Data Quality Problems and Issues are identified and remediated within estimated turn-around times (ETT).

  • Track and report Data Quality Lifecycle Metrics for Tier 1 and 2 Risk & Regulatory Reports and Prioritized Financial Crimes Processes.

  • Maintain and enhance Data Quality tools

  • Proactively identify gaps in current BAU activities and implement improvements.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the data governance framework and processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in data science, information management, business administration, or related fields.

  • At least 10 years of experience in data governance, data quality, data management, or related fields.

  • Strong knowledge of data governance principles, frameworks, methodologies, and tools.

  • Experience in coordinating and facilitating data governance activities and forums.

  • Experience in working with data policies, standards, procedures, and controls.

  • Experience in working with data quality metrics, dashboards, and reports.

  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Risk and regulatory reporting and or Financial Crimes experience is beneficial.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBi and Collibra.

The typical base pay range for this role is between $173K - $216K depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonus and/or incentive compensation.
