Job Location: Beaver Dam, WI

Position Summary

The Activities Director is responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive therapeutic recreation program that meets the physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and spiritual needs of our residents. This position oversees the daily operations of the Activities Department, supervises activity staff, coordinates volunteers, and ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations.

The ideal candidate is a compassionate leader who enjoys building relationships with residents, families, and staff while creating engaging programs that improve quality of life.

Essential Job Duties
  • Plan, organize, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive activity program that meets the individualized interests and needs of residents.

  • Complete resident activity assessments and develop individualized activity care plans.

  • Ensure activity programming supports residents with varying levels of cognitive and physical functioning, including those living with dementia.

  • Maintain a monthly activity calendar that includes group, individual, evening, weekend, and holiday programming.

  • Supervise, mentor, and schedule Activity Department staff.

  • Recruit, train, and coordinate volunteers and community organizations.

  • Develop relationships with local entertainers, schools, churches, and community groups to enhance programming.

  • Coordinate transportation and planning for community outings when appropriate.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of resident participation, preferences, and progress in accordance with facility policy.

  • Monitor residents for changes in condition and communicate concerns to nursing and interdisciplinary team members.

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and facility regulations related to activity programming.

  • Manage the department budget, maintain inventory, and order activity supplies and equipment as needed.

  • Decorate the facility for holidays, birthdays, and special events to create a welcoming atmosphere.

  • Participate in interdisciplinary care plan meetings and Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.

  • Foster a culture of dignity, independence, inclusion, and resident choice.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Certification as an Activity Director or eligibility to obtain certification preferred.

  • Previous experience in long-term care, assisted living, or senior services preferred.

  • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of state and federal regulations governing activity programming in long-term care.

  • Experience working with residents living with dementia preferred.

  • Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate residents, staff, volunteers, and families.

  • Creative, energetic, compassionate, and resident-focused.

  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office and electronic medical records.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the interdisciplinary team.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and assist residents throughout the workday.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

  • Ability to push wheelchairs and transport residents safely throughout the facility.

  • Ability to participate in indoor and outdoor activities in various weather conditions.

  • Must possess sufficient vision, hearing, and manual dexterity to perform essential job functions safely.
