The Strategy and Innovation organization, led by the Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer, is responsible for corporate strategy, large strategic programs, innovation, and our overall AI strategy and program management. We join our colleagues across Charles Schwab in championing the goals of engaged investors and registered investment advisors (RIAs) with passion and integrity.
The Corporate Strategy team is responsible for supporting the CEO and Executive Council in shaping and making decisions about the long-term direction of the firm, in addition to supporting high-priority cross-enterprise strategic initiatives and leading supporting capabilities such as competitive intelligence, industry research, and strategic planning.
We are seeking a Director of Corporate Strategy. The role will be based in our headquarters in Westlake, TX, or in our Austin office and report to the Head of Corporate Strategy.
Key Outcomes:
  • Evaluate and build perspectives on key questions for Schwab's strategic direction, bringing analytical and conceptual problem-solving skills
  • Communicate strategic direction to multiple audiences, from senior leaders to new employees across all parts of the organization
  • Engage, develop, and inspire team members to deliver on a portfolio of strategy projects while helping them develop as professionals
  • Drive multiple strategy engagements simultaneously, balancing speed and depth of answer with project requirements and stakeholder needs

What you have
Required Experience:
  • Minimum 6 years of business strategy-related experience, in external consulting firms or internal strategy groups
  • Minimum of 10 years of total work experience
  • Deep expertise across multiple areas in the investment industry across multiple of the following areas: brokerage, wealth management, asset management, digital assets, private markets, banking, payments, and money movement
  • Acumen in finance (financial modeling, valuation, quantitative analysis, etc.) essential
  • Demonstrated ability to break down high-level requests / questions (especially when ambiguous) into actionable research & analytics plans
  • Program management oversight of complex strategic initiatives spanning multiple business teams in a large enterprise environment
  • Minimum 2 years of direct people leadership experience
  • Crafting impactful executive presentations articulating our vision, strategy, and progress for both internal and external audiences
  • Executive presence / awareness to convey complex concepts through various mediums in relatable terms and anchored in business meaning (be able to clearly communicate the "so what") across various use cases (broad strategic questions, targeted strategic initiatives, board-level communications, etc.)
  • Experience leading strategic project engagements with cross-functional stakeholders, including C-suite level executives (e.g. firmwide strategic decisions, growth & efficiency opportunities, operating model enhancements)
  • Identifying connections between seemingly unrelated ideas and leveraging this insight to make better business decisions
  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Identifying how to leverage AI to solve critical business problems, and experience evaluating when to leverage AI vs when not to
  • Experience using / familiarity with AI tools to increase productivity

Preferred Experience:
  • Master's degree
  • Functional experience in technology (IT, AI, Data, Analytics, Digital Assets) helpful
  • Successful history of influencing and cultivating strong business relationships across departments and levels to create alignment and support.
  • Curiosity & passion for research, industry trends, strategy development, technology, etc.
