M&J is seeking a Junior/Mid-Level Structural Inspection Quality Control engineer to support WMATA's Structural Inspection, Quality Control, and Maintenance Engineering programs.
Responsibilities
โ€ข Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge of the WMATA Structures Inspection Manual and procedures to ensure compliance with established guidelines.
โ€ข Conduct quality control reviews of inspection reports, witness and assess field inspections, and perform post-inspection quality control.
โ€ข Serve as a technical resource by offering guidance on inspection best practices to WMATA inspectors.
โ€ข Develop and support QC inspection process improvements.
โ€ข Generate reports based on inspection findings to support the Program Director, maintenance and engineering teams, and TAMO in prioritizing maintenance and renewal recommendations.
โ€ข Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director or designee to support accurate, reliable inspections and documentation of the inspections.
Qualifications
โ€ข A minimum of a bachelor's degree in civil engineering with an emphasis on Structures.
โ€ข Capability to perform QC of structural inspections related to:
o Bridge spans
o Tunnels
o Culverts
o Stations
o Fences
o Retaining walls and shafts
o S&I Pits, bus garages, and parking garages
o Other structures as requested
โ€ข Experience in structural inspection testing. Ability to identify and recommend the most applicable non-destructive (NDT) and destructive testing methods.
โ€ข Experience using Inspection tools such as the "D-Meter" and other NDT tools such as Dye Penetrant.
โ€ข Proposed Professional Engineer (PE) must possess the following certifications:
o FHWA-NHI-130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges; or
o FHWA-NHI-130056 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges for Professional Engineers; and,
o FHWA-NHI-130078 Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges.
โ€ข Proposed Engineer in Training (EIT) must possess the following certifications:
o FHWA-NHI-130055 Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges.
โ€ข Registered PE is preferred including a minimum requirement of three (3) years of hands-on structural inspection and testing experience, on major transit system structures.
โ€ข Possession of the following knowledge and credentials is preferred:
o FHWA-NHI-130110 Tunnel Safety Inspection
o National Tunnel Inspection Standards (NTIS)
o Tunnel Operations, Maintenance, Inspection and Evaluation (TOMIE) Manual
o Specifications for the National Tunnel Inventory (SNTI)
o National Certified Tunnel Inspector (NCTI)
o FHWA-NHI-130078 Fracture Critical Inspection Techniques for Steel Bridges
o Completion of a 10-hour OSHA safety course.
