Job description

Overview
The Director of Editorial Content Engineering leads the editorial direction, editorial operations and cross collaboration with our product and engineering teams to ensure the success and integrity of our content across Microsoft MSN surfaces. This role sits within the Microsoft AI core experiences team and aims to build content products that inform and entertain while ensuring high-quality, timely delivery of MSN AI-powered products across MSN surfaces. Starting January 26, 2026, Microsoft AI (MAI) employees who live within a 50- mile commute of a designated Microsoft office in the U.S. or 25-mile commute of a non-U.S., country-specific location are expected to work from the office at least four days per week. This expectation is subject to local law and may vary by jurisdiction.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement quality guidelines and workflows for premium AI-powered content experiences across MAI surfaces.
  • Shape editorial guidelines and direction of our AI product experiences through a data driven content strategy and prompt-engineering guidance.
  • Execute established quality guidelines at scale in partnership with product and engineering teams.
  • Lead the development of large editorial projects - design, editorial, product experience - around key tentpole events like World Cup, Met Gala, F1 etc.
  • Oversee weekly, monthly, quarterly editorial planning across all surfaces.
  • Lead cross-functional projects with product, technical, and design teams, influencing scale and editorial outcomes.
  • Drive editorial judgment on nuanced topics, balancing creative, technical requirements, and business objectives.
  • Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams on model evaluation, prompt engineering, and strategic planning.
  • Make data informed decisions that meet audience, editorial, and business objectives.
  • Identify workflow improvements to enhance efficiency and product quality across editorial content product.
  • Work with the VP, Content on audience development, how to bring new and younger audiences into the MSN and Microsoft AI experiences.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 10+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years people management experience.
  • Proven experience in driving editorial direction, strategy, and accuracy at scale.
  • Proven excellence in executing editorial judgment and leading editorial direction.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree AND 15+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience collaborating with product and technical engineering teams.
  • Experience building products for broad audiences at scale.
  • Solid communication and leadership experience.
  • Experience with GenAI content.

Product Management M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800.00 - $274,800.00 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000.00 - $304,200.00 per year.
