The Music Business program provides a well-rounded and in-depth study of the fundamentals of business and management, focusing on how those skills can be applied in the entertainment and music industry. Throughout the degree programs, students work in a professional, project-based environment, designed to recreate the challenges and opportunities they'll encounter in the world of entertainment business. Foundational business topics include studies in management, marketing, accounting, finance, communications, and law, laying the groundwork for more advanced industry studies, including business models, concert management, digital marketing, intellectual property, entrepreneurship, data analysis, and more.
Course Directors may be required to teach both on-campus and online. All positions are full time, on-campus in Winter Park, FL.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Create an environment of learning through effective teaching skills, maintain student-centered focus, and update curriculum to keep current and relevant to industry standards.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching strategies and encourage active learning.
  • Create learning activities, including assignments, tests, quizzes and labs, and assess student outcomes in a timely manner through effective assessment and constructive feedback to students to support the learning process.
  • Perform lectures for campus courses, and hold scheduled virtual course meetings for online courses. Teaching will be conducted through on-campus and online delivery.
  • Interact positively with diverse student populations; provide all students with equal opportunities for learning.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the industry, maintain knowledge and skill relevancy through continuing education as defined in the faculty development plan.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Oversee associate course directors and lab specialists to ensure the integrity of curriculum and degree learning outcomes.

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including proofreading and editing for grammar and punctuation
  • Detail oriented
  • Ability to multi-task while working independently and collaboratively with other teachers and university staff
  • Ability to interact professionally and constructively with students and staff at all levels in an immersive, fast paced environment

Education and/or Experience:
The ideal candidate must have a minimum of four (4) years related and verifiable work experience and required to hold a Bachelor's degree in Business, Design, Communications, Entertainment, Music or related discipline from an accredited college or university. Candidates must have extensive, hands-on experience in the following areas:
  • Concert Promotion and Production Management: A deep understanding of ground-level production basics, including budgeting, logistics, and planning.
  • Artist Touring and Execution: Experience in the end-to-end process of developing and executing an artist's tour schedule.
  • Contract Riders and Negotiations: Proficiency in understanding, drafting, and managing technical, hospitality, and legal riders.
  • Logistics and Operations: Knowledge of staff and equipment booking, vendor management, and daily tour operations.
  • Safety and Regulations: Expertise in public safety guidelines, venue requirements, and working with industry unions

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • None

Skills:
  • Minimum of 4 years of significant professional experience in the concert, touring, or live event production industry.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a variety of multimedia and design skills as described above, evidenced by a professional portfolio.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills for effective classroom delivery.
  • Ability to translate complex industry practices into an accessible and engaging curriculum for students.
  • Proficiency using software programs such as MS Word, Excel, Keynote/PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Basic business computer skills, including iLife
  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Environmental Factors/Physical Demands:
Work is performed in an office, classroom or recording studio environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have the ability to maintain active student and employee communication; access, input and retrieve information from the computer system. May be subject to; bending, reaching, kneeling, stooping and lifting up to thirty (30) pounds.
