What is a Director Comsec Manager?

A Director Comsec Manager is a senior-level professional responsible for overseeing all aspects of communications security (COMSEC) within an organization. This role involves managing the protection of sensitive information and ensuring the secure transmission of classified or confidential data. The Director Comsec Manager develops security policies, leads compliance efforts with government regulations, and supervises teams that handle cryptographic materials and security protocols. They often act as the primary point of contact for audits and security incidents related to communications security, ensuring the organization remains compliant and protected from cyber threats.

Familiarity with cryptographic key management systems, secure communication devices, and relevant certifications such as CISSP or COMSEC Custodian certification is typically required. Leadership, attention to detail, and strong interpersonal skills help manage teams, enforce policies, and facilitate communication with stakeholders. These skills ensure the protection of sensitive information, regulatory compliance, and the integrity of organizational communication systems.
