Job description

The Role
Sixth Street is looking for a Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to join our Cloud Infrastructure Team in Dallas, TX. We have an established cloud environment spanning Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Microsoft Azure. We are responsible for building, maintaining and expanding the foundational cloud infrastructure Sixth Street runs on. Successful candidates will be comfortable with foundational enterprise and cloud architecture principles, including account and directory management (e.g. Microsoft AD), Identity and Access Management (IAM), and core networking components such as TCP/IP, DNS, and routing. This role requires a strong grasp of security policy frameworks and modern connectivity models like Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA), alongside higher-level cloud-native services. Successful candidates will also be interested in learning about maintaining Microsoft Windows Server and SQL Server based workloads using cloud native AWS tools like Systems Manager.
Core Responsibilities
  • Combines software and systems knowledge. We build infrastructure with a software engineering mindset, prioritizing 'the -ilities'-reliability, scalability, and security-by default. You should be a polyglot who is equally comfortable in a Linux shell or Windows PowerShell (though you might have a preference), capable of debugging Python and JavaScript, and committed to implementing security best practices.
  • Makes the cloud look easy. We leverage the cloud as a strategic enabler-using its flexibility, automation capabilities, and broad service ecosystem to meet business goals and deliver reliable, scalable infrastructure. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in AWS and familiarity with GCP and Azure and understands that cloud platforms are powerful API-driven environments, not just virtualized data centers. Your work will make deploying and operating complex workloads feel seamless.
  • Comfort with making decisions when others won't. Sixth Street Cloud Infrastructure is a lean team supporting enterprise-scale infrastructure with minimal headcount. This requires team members who can independently assess problems, make sound technical decisions, and take ownership without waiting for consensus. You'll need to be comfortable with ambiguity, document your reasoning, and advocate for your ideas while remaining open to feedback. Successful candidates are driven to make an impact-pushing for necessary change and executing on ideas, even when the path forward isn't clear.
  • Questions, Learns and Educates. We constantly ask "Why?" and expect the same from our team. Successful candidates will manage work in Jira, document findings in GitHub and Confluence, and communicate regularly with stakeholders. While we value technical certifications and degrees (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, CompTIA Security+, or a degree in Computer Science), we prioritize a bias for action paired with real-world experience and expertise.

Preferred
  • 6-9 years of experience in a related field
  • Bachelor's degree (e.g., Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering)
  • Strong sense of urgency; ability to execute quickly and efficiently with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple teams
  • Strong prioritization and project management skills
  • Comfort working in a high growth, iterative environment

What We Value
  • Highly motivated, entrepreneurial, and team-oriented candidates with strong problem-solving skills
  • Strong developer empathy and a passion for improving developer experience
  • Team oriented and ability to influence through patterns, frameworks, and collaboration
  • High Trust and Integrity
  • Strategic / Entrepreneurial Mindset
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Cross-team collaboration and the ability to operate across engineering, analytics, risk, and infrastructure functions
